Hi everyone! My 7-year-old has been showing a lot of interest in how games are made, but standard text-heavy tutorials feel a bit too advanced right now. I’ve heard there are some cool new AI-powered apps that make the logic behind coding much more intuitive and fun through interactive storytelling or smart assistants. We’re mostly using an iPad, so something mobile-friendly with a visual interface would be ideal. I’m looking for something that balances play with actual logic-building skills. Does anyone have experience with specific AI tools that keep young kids engaged without being overwhelming? What apps would you recommend for a complete beginner just starting their coding journey?
Quick reply! Respectfully, I'd consider another option. I had issues with pricey AI subs, so we basically switched to ScratchJr. It's free and better for 7yo logic. Don't overpay! 👍
sooo honestly, i would suggest starting with the free stuff first cuz those monthly subs add up fast!! I've been through this with my kid and honestly, Swift Playgrounds on iPad is the goat. It's totally free and teaches real logic without being too text-heavy. If u want something even simpler for a 7-year-old, ScratchJr is 100% free too and basically the gold standard for visual blocks. Ngl, some "AI" apps for kids are kinda overpriced right now. Like Tynker: Coding Games for Kids is cool and has some AI themes, but it can be like $15/month which is a lot if they lose interest after a week. Just make sure to check the "free" labels carefully... I'd lowkey stick to the free ones first to see if it sticks. anyway, gl with the coding journey!! 👍
Similar situation here! My kid actually uses CodeSpark Academy and the event-driven logic is amazing. TBH the AI-driven adaptive puzzles are technical but sooo intuitive for a 7-year-old. Love it!!
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
