So I’ve been grinding my Openclaw for like three weeks now and finally hit the level cap where I can actually do something in the arena without getting melted in two seconds. I’m basically at the point where I have to commit to a specific skill tree because the respec costs in this game are absolutely insane—like 50k gold every time you want to change one minor node?? no way i can afford that more than once. i’ve got about 450 skill points to dump right now and im trying to push for the Diamond rank before the season resets on Tuesday so im on a bit of a time crunch here lol.
Basically im stuck between two paths and I keep flip flopping. The first option I’m looking at is the full Lacerating Grip path. Everyone says the bleed damage is meta right now and if you pair it with Frenzy Scratch you can basically delete someone if you land the combo. but the problem is i find myself being super squishy? like if i miss the initial jump im basically a sitting duck and the cooldowns are pretty long.
The second route I’m considering is more of the crowd control side with Paralyzing Pounce and the Deep Hook upgrade. I tried a bit of this in some low level duels outside the main city and it felt way more consistent because you can just keep people locked down. But i worry about the actual kill pressure. I played against a healer last night and i literally couldn’t finish them off because my burst was too low even though I had them stunned half the time.
I’m really leaning toward the burst build because seeing big numbers is fun but man, one mistake and it’s over. if i go for the CC build am i just gonna get out-healed by every paladin I run into? i only have enough gold for one more full respec before the tournament on Friday so i really gotta get this right the first time. which one of these setups is actually gonna get me more wins in the current meta?
Honestly, id stay away from the full Lacerating Grip path if youre worried about gold and respec costs. Its way too high-risk for someone trying to hit Diamond on a deadline. One miss and youre basically a target dummy, which is a terrible way to climb consistently. I would suggest focusing on a hybrid CC build for a few reasons:
@Reply #1 - good point! Unfortunately the current scaling data for Lacerating Grip is pretty underwhelming if you dont have the high-end gear to back it up. I have looked at the frame data and the animation lock on Frenzy Scratch is just too long for high-tier PvP... it is not as good as expected for a climb to Diamond. If you miss, you are looking at a 1.2s window where you are basically a target. It is honestly frustrating how poorly these nodes synergize without massive investment.
@Reply #2 - good point! Honestly, the state of the game economy is just depressing right now. Spending 50k gold on a single respec when youre trying to push Diamond is basically robbery. Ive been playing since alpha and its never felt this punishing for players who actually have to earn their gold. Unfortunately, both the paths you’re looking at are kind of traps for mid-tier players. I had issues with the Lacerating path because its a total gold sink—you need perfect gear to make it work and not get blown up. The CC build is just a snooze fest that gets countered by any decent healer anyway. If you want my advice, go for a hybrid Vanguard setup. You want to dump points into Primal Roar and Bloodthirst. Primal Roar gives you that much-needed armor shred without the long animation lock that usually gets you killed. Its way cheaper to run because you dont need top-tier crit gear to make it viable. Also, if youre struggling with the timing on your jumps, maybe look into getting a Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite MMO Gaming Mouse. I switched to one last year and having those side buttons for my defensive cooldowns saved me so much frustration. Its way more reliable than trying to hit complex keybinds in the heat of a match. Stick to the hybrid build... its basically the only way to climb without going broke. Good luck with the reset, youre gonna need it with how the servers have been lately.
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
