Best AI tools for kids to improve their drawing skills?

My 8-year-old is obsessed with sketching but often gets frustrated with tricky proportions. I’m looking for kid-safe AI tools, ideally for the iPad, that offer step-by-step guidance or help refine rough doodles. Are there any apps that actually teach drawing techniques rather than just generating images from scratch? I'd love some beginner-friendly recommendations!

Quick question—is your kid using a stylus like the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) or just their finger? Honestly, it highkey changes which AI features will actually work for them since pressure sensitivity and tip precision are huge for learning real technique.

In my experience, you're basically looking at two different tech approaches here:

* **ShadowDraw: Learn How to Draw**: This is basically digital training wheels. It uses AI to guide the hand through stroke paths from professional artists.
* *Pros:* Insane for building muscle memory.
* *Cons:* Can feel a bit like "tracing" rather than original sketching.
* **Sketchar: Learn to Draw with AR**: This one is more advanced. It uses computer vision and AR to help with those tricky proportions you mentioned.
* *Pros:* Proportions are spot on because of the AI overlay.
* *Cons:* The tech setup can be a bit finicky for an 8-year-old to calibrate alone, lol.

But yeah, lmk about the stylus situation! I've tried many of these setups and the hardware makes a big difference in how the AI tracks the sketch. 👍

TL;DR from this thread: the consensus is that specific apps like Sketchar are the way to go, but the hardware - like that stylus mentioned - really makes the difference. Basically, teaching technique matters cuz it builds muscle memory so they dont get frustrated with those tricky lines.

Honestly, it kinda depends on your budget. Here's a quick comparison of two other options:

- AutoDraw by Google: This is free and web-based. It uses AI to suggest better versions of rough doodles. It's reallyyy helpful for learning proportions cuz it shows them what a "correct" shape looks like instantly.
- Tayasui Sketches Pro for iPad: Much cheaper than some pro apps. It has a super clean interface that isn't distracting, so they can actually focus on learning strokes.

Starting with free tools is a decent option before committing to a paid app tho. gl!

For ur situation, I would suggest trying these specific iPad apps:

* ShadowDraw: Learn How to Draw - It literally guides ur hand through the strokes.
* Sketchar: Learn to Draw with AI - Great for mastering proportions.

Seriously, my kid loves these cuz they actually teach the technique instead of just doing the work for u... gl!
