Sorry if this is a dumb question but I know literally nothing about computers. My 7 year old wants to learn to make games on the cheap tablet I got him for his birthday next month.

Are there any AI apps that teach kids to code? I have no idea what I'm looking for...

I saw this earlier. My niece actually got obsessed with a similar tablet last year. Honestly though, be careful with AI and kids data. She used Code.org AI for Oceans Free Course and it was a safe way to start. You might also consider Tynker Coding for Kids Subscription for more game stuff.

  • Use a burner email
  • Disable in-app purchases Id suggest watching them closely at first.

@Reply #1 - good point! Privacy is definitely something to watch out for with these apps. Ive been obsessed with finding the best tools for my cousins kids lately and there are some seriously cool options that feel like magic!! Since they want to make games on a tablet, here are two I really love:

  • Kodable Coding for Kids App is basically perfect for a 7 year old. It teaches logic and basic programming loops using tiny aliens. Pros: Super cute and teaches the technical mindset of logic sequences. Cons: The free version is a bit short.
  • CodeSpark Academy with Foos Coding is another fantastic choice. It uses a no-words interface so even if they are still learning to read, they can build stuff. Pros: Huge library of user-made games to learn from. Cons: Requires a subscription after the trial ends. Honestly, its amazing how fast kids pick this stuff up. Just let them play around and dont worry if they get stuck... thats half the fun lol!
