Which mobile app actually has decent AI courses because I am honestly so over the Coursera app crashing every time I try to download a lecture for my commute. Im trying to cram as much as I can about generative AI and LLMs before this interview I have in two weeks but the UI on these big platforms is just trash on my phone. It keeps freezing and the quizzes dont even load half the time which is driving me insane. I spend like 45 minutes on the L train here in Chicago every morning and I really need something that works offline and feels like it was actually made for a smartphone not just a desktop site shoved into an app wrapper. My budget is like 25 or 30 bucks a month if the content is actually good and not just some basic what is a robot intro stuff. I looked at Brilliant but idk if they have enough deep AI stuff or if its just math? If anyone knows an app that has legit machine learning or neural network paths that doesnt make me want to throw my phone out the window please let me know... it feels like everything I find is either too simple or just broken.

I signed up for the Brilliant.org Premium Annual Subscription hoping for more, but it mostly felt like math puzzles. Its cool for logic, but for an actual interview about LLMs, its just too surface-level... kinda disappointing tbh. I eventually moved over to the Udemy Personal Plan Monthly for my morning commute. The UI is way more stable than Courseras app, and the offline downloads actually work without crashing my whole phone. Its around 30 bucks a month depending on the current promo. A couple things to watch out for:

  • The video player is decent, but some instructors use tiny code text
  • Make sure you open the app while you still have signal at the station or it might fail to verify your license offline Its not perfect, but its the best Ive found that doesnt make me want to throw my phone onto the tracks.

@Reply #1 - good point! I had a similar headache with Coursera crashing mid-tunnel. You might want to consider LinkedIn Learning Monthly Subscription for your commute. I used it for their generative AI foundation courses and it didnt freeze once. Just be careful with the hands-on coding parts; theyre a nightmare on a small screen.

  • UI feels native
  • Offline downloads are reliable
  • Solid LLM content I would suggest avoiding those web-wrapper apps entirely.

In my experience, I've tried many apps that just fail mid-commute. Over the years, I found DataCamp Premium Mobile App Subscription to be the most reliable for learning on the go.

  • The offline mode actually works without freezing up.
  • Their LLM and Generative AI tracks are really solid for your budget.
  • UI feels native, not like a clunky web wrapper tho.
