Are there any mobile apps that use the ChatGPT API?

I’ve been using ChatGPT on my desktop constantly for work and personal projects, but I’m looking for a more seamless experience on my phone. While the official app is great, I’m curious if there are any third-party mobile apps that leverage the API to offer unique features, like better voice integration, custom widgets, or specialized writing templates. I’m specifically looking for something fast and stable for iOS or Android. I’ve seen a few in the app store, but many look like low-quality clones. Does anyone have recommendations for reliable apps that use the ChatGPT API and actually add value beyond the standard interface? I'd love to hear about your favorites!

sooo i totally get what you mean about the clones, the app store is basically flooded with them right now. honestly though, i've been using Poe - Fast AI Chat for a few months and it's actually legit. i like it cuz you can swap between different models like GPT-4 or Claude if you want... it basically feels way faster than the web interface sometimes.

another solid option i tried is Perplexity - Ask Anything, which is more like a search engine but it uses the API and lists sources for everything it says which is super handy for work stuff. here is what i usually stick with:

* Poe - Fast AI Chat - great for switching models and custom bots
* Perplexity - Ask Anything - best for research and citations
* Petey - AI Assistant - if youre on Apple Watch or iOS, it's really snappy

the pricing on some of these can be kinda annoying with subscriptions tho, so just keep an eye on that!! but yeah, these are definitely not low-quality clones. hope that helps you find something decent!

Seconding the recommendation above regarding wrappers! Honestly, I've tried many over the years and most are just cash grabs. But since I'm pretty cost-conscious, I've been looking for ways to avoid those monthly subscriptions that stack up.

In my experience, Pal Chat AI is a solid pick if you want a clean iOS interface without the bloat. It's fast and doesn't feel like a cheap clone, plus it's great for quick tasks.

Another one I highkey love for value is TypingMind . It's basically the gold standard if you're an expert user. Here's why:

- TypingMind: You plug in your own API key, so you ONLY pay for what you actually use. No flat $20 fee. It's way cheaper in the long run if you aren't a heavy user, right?
- Poe - Fast AI Chat: As mentioned before, it's awesome for model swapping, but the subscription can feel steep if you only want GPT-4.

So yeah, go with a "bring your own key" app if you wanna save money. Peace!

ok so, basically you gotta understand that most third-party options are just "wrappers" for the API. honestly, the reason that matters is cuz these wrappers let you tweak the "temperature" or system prompts, which the official app doesnt realy let you do. it gives you way more control over how the AI actually responds to your projects.

In my experience, if ur looking for something legit and not just a low-quality clone, I would suggest checking out Perplexity. It’s technicaly more of a search engine, but it uses the same underlying models and the mobile app is incredibly fast. Another solid move is using a high-end web UI like TypingMind and just saving it to your home screen. It’s super stable and you use your own API key, which is definately safer. Just be careful with where you put your keys tho... make sure to set usage limits so you dont get a surprise bill!! gl
