Are there any low-cost AI tools for automated video editing?

Ive been sitting on like 40 gigs of footage from my weekend meal prep sessions and I am honestly dreading the edit. I work 9-5 and by the time I get home I just dont have the brain power to sit in Premiere for four hours just cutting out dead air and mistakes. I really need something that can just do the heavy lifting for me so I can actually get these videos onto YouTube.

Im looking at a few different things right now and I cant really decide which way to go. Here is what I need:

  • Budget is strictly under 20 bucks a month because this is just a hobby for now
  • Needs to automatically remove silence and maybe those um and uh sounds
  • Needs to be fast because I want to post every Sunday
  • Web based is a plus because my laptop is kinda old and starts sounding like a jet engine when I render stuff

Right now im torn between Descript and Wisecut. Descript seems cool because you edit the text but I dont know if its actually faster for cooking stuff where im moving around a lot. Wisecut says it does the jump cuts automatically which sounds amazing but is it actually smart enough to not cut me off mid sentence? I also looked at CapCut but it feels like I still have to do most of the work myself even with the auto captions. Is there anything else I should be looking at or which one of those two is better for a beginner who is super short on time? I really dont want to spend my whole Saturday staring at a timeline...

Honestly, most of these tools have been pretty disappointing lately. Spent way too many hours testing stuff that promised to save time but just gave me more work. Tried Gling AI for Video Creators recently and it handles silences okay, but the interface is a mess when you try to upload 40 gigs of files.

  • Gling: Fast at finding gaps but unfortunately it struggles with kitchen noise like sizzling pans.
  • Podcastle AI Video Editor: Great for clean audio but gets super laggy once you add a few layers. Neither of these feels like a perfect fix. Had issues with auto-cutters chopping off the end of sentences way too often. It is frustrating when you just want to get the job done and the smart tech is actually pretty dumb. Might be better to just tough it out with a basic setup instead of fighting with an AI that doesnt get it.

How long is your raw footage usually? Uploading massive files can be a drag on some sites. Honestly, I have been super satisfied using Veed.io Pro Video Editor lately.

  • The auto-split and silence removal works well.
  • It is web-based so your laptop wont blow up.
  • About $18 a month, so just under your limit. It makes things so much faster than doing it manually, no complaints here.

Regarding what #1 said about "> Wisecut says it does the jump cuts..." - i would be cautious with that tbh. I find those auto-cuts can be pretty jarring if the lighting changes even a little bit while youre moving around the kitchen. It is usually better to stick to basics so you dont end up with a mess that looks unprofessional. It is kinda like when I bought that high-tech pressure cooker last year because I wanted to save time on meal prep. I was so worried about it exploding that I stood in the hallway every time it reached pressure... just staring at the kitchen door. Realized i was spending more time worrying about the machine than i would have spent just cooking on the stove. My cat hates the whistling sound it makes too, she hides under the bed for like three hours. Anyway lol i am rambling.

> Wisecut says it does the jump cuts automatically which sounds amazing but is it actually smart enough to not cut me off mid sentence? Wisecut is literally a life saver for exactly what youre doing! I love it because it handles the boring stuff while you focus on the food. For cooking videos where youre constantly moving from the stove to the cutting board, you gotta go with Wisecut Pro AI Video Editor. It uses AI to identify the pauses and it actually leaves a tiny bit of padding so it doesnt feel like a glitchy mess or cut you off mid-word. Plus the auto-zoom feature is fantastic for making it look like you have multiple cameras when youre just using one! Since youre on a budget and have an old laptop, the web-based rendering is huge. You just upload your 40 gigs and let their servers sweat while you chill. Descript is amazing for podcasts or talking heads, but honestly editing cooking by text is a nightmare because you need to see the action, not just the transcript. It gets messy when you are doing things silently like chopping or stirring. If you really want those um and uh sounds gone, Descript Creator Plan is the king of filler word removal, but for pure speed and jump cuts, Wisecut wins for me. It literally turned my three hour raw footage into a snappy 10 minute video in like 20 minutes. Its super smart about the audio ducking too... if you add music it lowers it automatically when you speak. Total game changer!
