I’ve been trying to pick up Spanish lately, but I’m finding it really hard to get enough speaking practice without feeling self-conscious. I’ve heard that AI tools are getting incredibly good at roleplaying real-life conversations and correcting grammar on the fly, which sounds perfect for my needs. I’m specifically looking for something that offers voice-to-voice interaction and doesn't just feel like a basic chatbot. I’ve looked at Duolingo's AI features and ChatGPT, but I'm curious if there are specialized apps that handle pronunciation better or offer structured lessons. Does anyone have a favorite AI tool that actually helped them become conversational? I'd love to know which one provides the most natural feedback!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, ChatGPT Plus is a beast for fluid talk, but as someone who’s worked in tech, I’m always a bit cautious about relying on it for pure language learning because it can occasionally "hallucinate" grammar rules that aren't actually standard. It’s great for flow, but if ur trying to build a solid foundation, you gotta be careful.

I’ve been using TalkPal AI Premium for a few months now and the technical side of their feedback loop is way more structured. Unlike the generic GPT model, TalkPal uses specialized speech-to-text APIs that are tuned for non-native accents, so it actually catches those tiny pronunciation slips that a general AI might just ignore to keep the convo going. Plus, it offers specific roleplays like "ordering at a cafe" or "job interviews" which helps with the anxiety since you know the context beforehand.

Another decent option if you want something even more rigid is LanguaTalk Langua—it gives you these really detailed transcripts so you can see exactly where you messed up the verb conjugation. It feels a bit safer for beginners because it doesnt let you get away with too many mistakes. Just my two cents... it really depends on if you want a "friend" to chat with or a "tutor" to correct you. gl with the Spanish! it gets easier I promise haha

sooo i've tried a few and honestly ChatGPT Plus with the new voice mode is highkey the best for just talking naturally. but if ur looking for structure, TalkPal AI is way better for specific roleplays. GPT feels like a real person but talkpal gives better grammar feedback imo... basically depends on if u want a teacher or a friend!! hope that helps gl

Seconding the recommendation above about reliability! Honestly, I'm super cautious about safety and data with these bots. My current setup actually hallucinated a whole bunch of verb conjugations last week, which is SO frustrating when you're just starting out like me. It felt more like a tech demo than a teacher tbh. Plus, I'm always worried about where my voice data is stored... kind of a bummer cuz the tech is cool, but it's not quite there yet.

Saw this thread earlier and figured I’d chime in from the DIY side of things. Instead of the usual off-the-shelf apps, I actually spent the last month building my own local pipeline because I was tired of the 'black box' nature and latency issues of most commercial subs. It’s definitely a bit of a rabbit hole, but doing it myself has been *way* more effective for my Spanish. My current setup involves:
- A local LLM with tuned 'temperature' settings to avoid those weird hallucinations everyone is talking about.
- Integration with a high-accuracy STT (speech-to-text) model that handles my messy accent better than the standard APIs.
- A custom RAG implementation that references actual linguistic datasets for grammar checks. Honestly, if you have the hardware, the self-hosted route is the way to go. You get total control over the personality and you aren't constantly worried about where your voice data is being uploaded... still tweaking the response delay though, maybe it's my GPU? Not 100% sure yet...

sooo I've been down this rabbit hole for a few months now while trying to save some cash and tbh I would suggest looking into the specialized language apps that use AI rather than just general chatbots. those big-name AI tools are super cool but they can get pricey with monthly subs and sometimes they just make stuff up which is pretty scary if ur actually trying to learn legit grammar rules! i mean i love the tech but you gotta be careful because it might sound confident while giving you the wrong verb conjugation lol.

for your situation i honestly think you should just stick with one of the dedicated language learning platforms that has built-in voice features. go with something like **Langua** or **ELSA Speak**... you basically cant go wrong there if ur worried about pronunciation. they have specific feedback loops for your accent which is WAY better than a general AI that just nods along to whatever you say. also i'd suggest staying away from the super expensive private tutors at first and just use these apps to build your confidence. make sure to check if they have a free tier or a cheap yearly plan tho because some of those subscriptions sneak up on you!! anyway just start slow and dont worry about being perfect... everyone sounds a bit weird when they start spanish but those dedicated apps really help with the self-conscious part since its just you and the phone. gl!
