I'm literally losing my mind right now because midterms are coming up next week and I have zero organization for my Bio 301 class. My notes are just a massive pile of random Google Docs and half-finished scribbles in my physical notebook and honestly it's a disaster. I tried looking up what people are using these days because I keep hearing about AI saving peoples lives but everything I find online is like... super targeted at corporate offices? I saw some people talking about Notion AI and Otter.ai. Notion looks cool but the monthly sub feels like way too much when I'm already broke and Otter seems like it's just for transcribing meetings which doesnt help when my professor draws a million diagrams on the board that I need to actually understand. I've only got about 15 or 20 bucks a month I can spend on this and I need something that can actually summarize dense scientific papers and help me plan out my study schedule without me having to spend five hours setting it up. What are you guys actually using that isnt just a glorified chatbot? Im looking for stuff that actually works for a heavy STEM workload because I cant keep doing this manually...

You gotta check out Anthropic Claude Pro Subscription! It is seriously amazing at logic and doesnt hallucinate as much with complex bio terms as other bots. For those diagrams, Mathpix Snip Pro Plan is literally magic for five bucks... it turns messy scribbles into clean digital notes. Just stay cautious tho, AI can still trip up on niche data so always double check the citations!

@Reply #1 - good point! Perplexity is legit for papers. Quick question tho, are you looking to digitize those handwritten diagrams or just summarize the Google Docs? If you want to save cash, I'm really happy with NotebookLM by Google Personal Edition. It uses the Gemini 1.5 Pro architecture with a massive context window for free. Honestly, it handles complex bio schemas way better than most paid tools I've tried.

^ This. Also, just saw this thread and you guys are hitting the nail on the head! For years, I was drowning in messy paper and disjointed docs before I found the setup I have now. Spending 30 bucks a month on random subs was a total waste of money, ngl. Here is what I learned from my own midterm disasters:

  • Stop paying for every shiny new tool. Focus on one that handles your specific file types.
  • My current setup works because it treats my messy notes as a database rather than just a list.
  • Dont waste time organizing for hours; let the AI index it all while you sleep. The tips about using Gemini-based platforms for notes and the research tools mentioned earlier are spot on for saving cash while getting that heavy STEM lifting done! Its amazing how much faster you can study when the AI actually understands your handwritten stuff... total game changer!

I'm super satisfied using Perplexity AI Pro Monthly Subscription. It handles complex PDF citations perfectly, which is basically a lifesaver for bio research papers. No complaints from my end.
