i am literally losing my mind with midterms coming up in three weeks and my current system is basically just me staring at a pile of textbooks until i cry lol. i have a massive project for my data structures class and two other exams and i just cant seem to stay organized no matter how many times i try to use a paper planner. i really need something that uses ai to actually manage my time because i am terrible at estimating how long things take and i always end up cramming at 3am which is just not sustainable anymore.

i've been doing a lot of deep diving into different tools and i am stuck between two main ones right now. first one is motion which looks incredible because it basically builds your whole schedule for you and moves things around when you miss a deadline but that price tag is honestly terrifying for a student budget. i think its like 19 or 30 bucks a month depending on the plan? thats a lot of ramen money and i dont know if its actually worth the hype for someone who isnt a corporate executive. the second one i'm looking at is reclaim.ai which seems way more affordable and integrates with my google calendar which is where all my actual class times are already. but i'm worried reclaim might be a bit too geared towards business people and meetings rather than like, deep study sessions and project milestones for a comp sci major.

here is what i'm working with:

  • budget: absolutely cannot go over $15 or $20 a month, cheaper is obviously better if possible
  • timeline: i need to get this set up like yesterday because my first exam is on the 14th
  • tech: i use a mac and an iphone so it needs to sync well and have decent notifications
  • features: i need something that automatically shifts my tasks if i miss a deadline because i always do

does anyone have experience with these as a student? is motion worth the extra cash or is there a better hidden gem out there that i'm missing? i've heard people mention stuff like trevor ai or even using notion with some ai plugins but notion always feels like i spend more time setting it up than actually working. i just want something that tells me 'study this now' and handles the logistics for me so i dont have to think about it anymore. my brain is just fried...

> The algorithm for automated shifting sounds great, but it actually increased my backlog because I knew the app would just push tasks. @Reply #1 - spot on about that backlog trap! I totally agree, letting an AI just move things around can be super dangerous if you arent disciplined. I just saw your post this morning and it reminded me of when I was drowning in a huge systems programming project last year. My old system was a total disaster and I was so stressed I could barely sleep! I ended up trying TickTick Task Manager Premium Subscription because I wanted something more reliable and established than those flashy new startups. It is honestly fantastic!! It doesnt use that "black box" AI that just shuffles stuff around behind your back. Instead, it has an amazing "Plan Your Day" feature that forces you to look at your tasks and intentionally slot them into your calendar. It syncs perfectly between my MacBook and iPhone which is a huge plus. The reason I love this over Motion is the price and the control. For a tiny fraction of the cost, you get a Pomodoro timer built right in and a calendar view that actually works. I found that "Deep Work" sessions are way better when I manually block them out. If I miss a deadline, it doesnt just hide the task—it shows up in red and mocks me until I fix it lol! It feels way safer than trusting an algorithm to understand how complex a data structures project really is. You should definitely give it a shot before dropping $30 on Motion!!

Reclaim felt way too corporate, and i found Trevor AI Task Scheduling Tool super disappointing because the syncing was unreliable. I felt way safer using Akiflow Productivity App instead. It doesnt have the same weird logic glitches that ruined my week, and it actually keeps my study sessions organized without those messy AI buffer mistakes.

I tried one of those expensive auto-schedulers last year when I was drowning in labs. The algorithm for automated shifting sounds great, but it actually increased my backlog because I knew the app would just push tasks. I ended up with a weeks worth of work piled into one Friday. I would suggest being careful about relying on the AI for discipline. I dont trust it anymore.
