What are the best AI tools for professional video editing?

So I've been editing professionally for like 12 years now, mostly Premiere Pro and some Resolve for grading, so I'm not a total newbie but man, I'm hitting a wall. I just landed this huge contract for a real estate firm in London and they need 40 high-end social clips by Monday morning. I’m staring at hours of rotoscoping and tedious b-roll matching and I just don't have the time to do it manually anymore.

My logic was that I could just find a plugin or a dedicated AI tool to handle the masking and maybe some smart b-roll tagging but there are so many AI tools out there that just look like total junk or are meant for beginners who don't know what a keyframe is. I've already messed around with:

  • Runway for masking (quality was iffy for 4K)
  • Descript (too basic for high-end delivery)
  • Topaz (great for upscaling but not the actual editing speed I need)

I need something that actually integrates into a pro workflow or at least lets me export clean alphas or XMLs. Budget isn't really an issue since the client is paying well, I just need the speed. Is anyone actually using stuff like those specialized AI plugins for Premiere that actually work for professional delivery? Or am I stuck doing this the old school way all weekend...

Re: "agree with the guys above, those cloud tools..." its honestly frustrating how much trash is out there right now. I had issues with those web-based apps on a high-end luxury listing last month and the artifacts were just a nightmare on the 4K architectural lines. Total waste of a subscription tbh. Unfortunately the marketing for these tools is way ahead of the actual utility for us pros. If youre already in the Adobe ecosystem and need real speed, check these out:

  • KeenTools GeoTracker for After Effects is incredible for tracking and masking complex objects when standard masks fail. It saved me hours on a recent shoot where I needed to swap out some signage.
  • Kognat Rotobot AI is a specialized plugin that handles instance segmentation way better than stock tools. It actually lets you export clean paths without that cloud compression junk.
  • For the b-roll headache, Axle ai 2024 Video Search is decent for tagging local files so you dont have to scrub through hours of raw footage manually. Its still a slog tho... unfortunately the tech isnt quite at the press button, get finished edit stage for high-end delivery yet.

agree with the guys above, those cloud tools are a total liability for 4K delivery. to keep your project budget in check, i would suggest looking at these instead:

  • Boris FX Silhouette 2024 for the heavy masking, maybe just rent it for a month to save money.
  • MotionVFX mMask AI for Premiere Pro - its a one-time purchase and way more reliable than cloud apps. be careful with your render times tho...

I wasted a whole day trying those cloud tools for a luxury real estate shoot last month and unfortunately the edge chatter on the 4K 10-bit footage was embarrassing. They arent as good as expected for high-contrast architectural lines. Just use the Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 Creative Cloud native masking or get Boris FX Mocha Pro 2024 Planar Tracking for exportable alphas. Most AI editors are basically toys for beginners.

Disappointing how many AI tools are junk. Honestly, just grab Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio 19 instead. Its Neural Engine beats subscriptions and handles 4K masking way better for less money.

Unfortunately, most of the AI hype is just not as good as expected for actual 4K delivery. I had issues with edge chatter on architectural lines using those cloud apps, and the artifacting is basically a dealbreaker for high-end real estate clients. For that volume of clips, you really need local processing that does not strip your metadata or mess with your bit depth.

  • KeenTools GeoTracker 2024 Plugin - this handles the architectural masking much better by using geometry instead of just guessing pixels.
  • Digital Anarchy Transcriptive Rough Cutter v3 - helps with the b-roll tagging by indexing your footage locally so you can search for visual cues.
  • Waves Clarity Vx Pro AI Noise Reduction - for cleaning up those social clip voiceovers without the weird robotic artifacts you get from cheaper tools. Realistically, you are still gonna be doing some manual cleanup. These tools just move the needle from impossible to just a very long weekend. Also, hope you have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X or similar because these local AI models will absolutely chug on anything less...

@Reply #2 - good point! Honestly, I have been through the same nightmare with those low-end cloud apps and they are just not it. I love how much time I saved once I switched my workflow over to Maxon Red Giant tools! Total game changer tho...

  • Investing in a solid toolkit from Maxon made my life so much easier!
  • Their automated matching tech is basically magic for high-end clips. Just grab whatever suite from them, you really cannot go wrong.

OMG I am dealing with the EXACT same nightmare right now!! Honestly, I have been doing this for over a decade and I feel like I am totally losing my mind trying to find an AI tool that actually fits a pro workflow! I just signed a massive project too and I am staring down the barrel of a hundred social cuts... it is so incredibly frustrating that we are still stuck doing this manually while the hype train keeps rolling. Every revolutionary tool I try ends up being total garbage or some web app meant for beginners who dont even know what a timeline is!! Ngl I have been looking for weeks and I still havent found anything that doesnt feel like a toy... ugh!
