I'm drowning in client work and need to speed up my editing workflow. I'm specifically looking for help with:

  • automated color grading
  • smart object removal

There are so many new plugins out there, but I need something reliable for professional use. What are the best AI tools for video editing that you actually use daily?

ngl i used to outsource everything, but fylm.ai Color Grading Platform is great for diy tho pricey. Runway Gen-3 Alpha AI Video also beats tedious rotoscoping despite being cloud-only.

ngl resolve is solid but Topaz Video AI 5.0 handles object removal with way better tensor core optimization for a flat $299. it's just more efficient for batch processing technical stuff.

tbh I've been geeked out on the technical specs of these new neural engine plugins lately. I think most of the heavy hitters are moving toward frame-by-frame analysis for object removal, though I'm not 100% sure which specific build is the most stable for a pro environment right now. IIRC, one of the big updates for a major suite uses a generative fill that handles lighting shifts way better than manual masking. For color, someone told me there's an AI tool that analyzes waveform data and matches shots based on a reference image with pretty high accuracy. I haven't personally stress-tested the bitrate impact on 4K RAW workflows yet, so I'm a bit hesitant. Not sure but it seems like the industry is pivoting toward these adaptive models. Basically, just look for stuff with solid GPU acceleration if you wanna save time.

Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.

Building on the earlier suggestion, it seems like the group is split between staying inside the big suites like Resolve or Premiere and jumping into niche plugins like Boris FX. Honestly, I've had issues with a lot of these supposedly smart tools failing when a client is breathing down my neck. Topaz is cool for some things, but the wait times are just brutal for daily work... not as good as expected if youre on a tight deadline. Its frustrating how much marketing hype there is versus actual stability. If you want something that actually holds up for professional output, maybe look into RE:Vision Effects RE:Fill. It handles the object removal stuff without the massive overhead of some of these newer neural models that tend to glitch. For the color side, Lattice Color Management is a solid pro-grade tool for managing complex transforms if the automated tools in Resolve are giving you weird artifacts. Quick tip: before you run any heavy AI masking or generative fill, clear your media cache and dedicated scratch disk. It saves a ton of those random crashes everyone is complaining about. Dont let the tech get in the way of the creative, you got this.

Just saw this, honestly Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio 19 is my daily driver. The Magic Mask is a lifesaver for object removal, though it eats VRAM for breakfast. For grading, Colourlab AI Professional Edition is incredible for matching shots automatically. It is way faster than manual matching, though Resolve's internal tools are usually enough for most of my client stuff.

Agree that the VRAM overhead is a nightmare. Honestly ive been searching for months and still havent found a tool reliable enough for my professional deliverables. Everything feels too glitchy and risky.

Re: "ngl i used to outsource everything, but fylm.ai..." - honestly I agree, the pricing is the real kicker with these tools. Looking at everything mentioned like the high-end plugins and the integrated stuff in Resolve, it's a lot to take in. I'm still a bit of a beginner here, but I would suggest being really careful with the cloud-based ones especially. Make sure to have a backup plan in case the ai results aren't consistent for a whole project. Long term, I worry about the subscription costs and hardware strain if you're using them daily. Just take it slow and maybe test one at a time so you dont get overwhelmed by the tech side of things while trying to meet deadlines.

Agree with Reply #3 about the technical power of Topaz, but if you want something integrated, Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 AI Features has made huge leaps lately. For high-end object removal, Boris FX Continuum 2024.5 with Mocha Pro AI is the industry gold standard. It uses AI-driven planar tracking which is way more reliable than standard masking. It is basically a market showdown right now between standalone AI apps and these heavy-duty plugins.

i love the energy here but i gotta disagree about those high end plugins always being the answer. the compatibility issues are basically a total nightmare if your hardware isnt perfect and i have lost way too much work to crashes lately... its just not worth the risk! If you want something that actually stays stable try Magix VEGAS Pro 21. The AI smart mask is actually amazing and the color match is super fast without killing your GPU. Quick tip: always clear your cache before a final AI render or you might get weird artifacts.
