What are the cheapest AI tools for high-quality image generation?

I'm looking for high-quality AI image generators but Midjourney is getting a bit pricey for my daily projects. I’ve tried some free tools, but the results are usually pretty blurry or weird. Are there any pay-as-you-go options or cheaper monthly subscriptions that still produce top-tier visuals? What are your go-to affordable alternatives?

Quick reply while I have a sec! If ur looking for that Midjourney quality without the heavy price tag, u honestly gotta check out Leonardo.ai. I use it for my daily workflow and their Leonardo.ai Apprentice Plan is way more budget-friendly. Plus, they give u free credits every single day that actually reset, so u can test a lot for $0. Tbh the quality is highkey comparable now with their new models. Also, lowkey, Ideogram 2.0 is absolutely killing it lately, especially for anything involving text or graphic design. Their Ideogram Basic Plan is only like $7 or $8 a month iirc. Super cheap. If u want that raw power without a subscription, look into using Flux.1 [pro] via an API host like Fal.ai—it's basically pay-as-you-go, so u only pay for what u actually generate. No monthly pressure... anyway, hope that helps! gl!

+1 to what was said earlier. Midjourney is SO pricey and I totally get the struggle with those weird, blurry results from free sites. Basically, a lot of these cheaper tools are just "interfaces" for models like Stable Diffusion, which is why the quality varies so much. I'm still kinda new to this, but honestly, I've been super satisfied with these pay-as-you-go or cheaper monthly options: - Leonardo.ai Artisan Plan – This is my go-to. You get daily tokens and the quality is seriously top-tier without being nearly as expensive as MJ.
- Tensor.art Pro Subscription – Its really cool cuz you can try out tons of different community models for like $12 a month. I mean, I'm just a beginner but I've had no complaints so far... it works well for my daily stuff and doesn't break the bank. Plus, it's way more fun to experiment with different styles! gl with your projects!! 👍

Oh man, I totally feel u!! Midjourney is basically the gold standard but my wallet is highkey screaming at me lately lol. I've tried a bunch of stuff cuz I couldn't stand those blurry/weird results from random free sites. For your situation, I would suggest looking into some "freemium" platforms that use high-end models like SDXL or Flux. These tools give you that top-tier look by using credit systems instead of huge flat fees. Here's what I recommend:
* Leonardo.ai is literally AMAZING. I love it because they give you daily free tokens, and their paid plans are way more flexible than MJ. It’s way more intuitive than Discord tbh!!
* SeaArt.ai is another one I'm obsessed with. It’s super affordable and honestly gives MJ a run for its money with the community models.
* Playground.com is fantastic for daily projects since the interface is basically built for fast iterations. Basically, these sites host the same underlying tech as the expensive ones but give you more control over your spending. Leonardo is probably the best starting point tho!! Good luck with the projects! peace

@Reply #9 - good point! Honestly, I stumbled upon this discussion while looking for better budget options myself because the free stuff just keeps letting me down lately. I tried some of those generic free wrappers recently and unfortunately, they are just not as good as expected. Most have massive queues or the output is kinda distorted compared to the bigger players, which is super frustrating when you have deadlines... it just feels like a waste of time. If you want something that actually works without a huge monthly hit, Krea.ai Pro Plan is worth a look. I have had some issues with their free tier being laggy, but the paid version is surprisingly robust for fast iterations and upscaling. Another solid bet is Fal.ai. It is basically a pay-per-image setup using the new Flux models. It is way more cost-effective than a subscription if you are not generating hundreds of images every single day. You basically load ten bucks into the account and only pay for what you actually render. This prevents you from paying for a massive monthly fee that you might not fully use. It is a bit more technical to set up but the quality is light years ahead of the blurry mess on most cheap sites tho.

Just catching up on this thread and tbh if you really want to save money without losing quality, you gotta go the DIY route with some of the newer credit-based sites. Ive been comparing SeaArt.ai VIP Membership and Tensor.art Pro Subscription lately. SeaArt is great cuz it simplifies everything while giving you high-end Flux outputs, but Tensor is way better if you want to swap specific models or LoRAs for a more unique look. Tensor has a bit more of a learning curve tho. Speaking of learning curves, I spent like three hours this morning trying to cable manage my desk. I bought these cheap velcro ties and ended up just making a bigger mess than when I started. My cat kept trying to eat the plastic tags and I swear I almost threw my LG 27GP850-B UltraGear Monitor out the window lol. Its funny how we try to optimize our digital workflows but our physical workspaces stay a disaster. Anyway, those two sites should save you some cash.
