I’m trying to streamline my workflow with AI features like auto-captioning and smart trimming, but many professional tools are just too expensive for a freelancer. I'm looking for something under $20 a month or with a lifetime deal. Does anyone have recommendations for affordable AI software that still yields high-quality results?

In my experience, I feel u on the budget struggle... professional software prices are actually getting insane lately. I've tried many different tools over the years and for under 20 bucks, you've got some lowkey amazing options now that didnt even exist a couple years ago. For your situation, I would suggest starting with CapCut Desktop. I know some people think it's just a social media app, but the AI auto-captioning is literally top-tier and it's basically free for the most part. It’s saved me SO much time on manual subtitling it's actually wild. If you're really looking for that "smart trimming" workflow, Gling.ai is a total lifesaver for freelancers. It's basically built to scrub through your raw footage and automatically cut out silences or bad takes. I think they have a subscription that fits right in ur budget, or you can even pay per video if you're not doing a ton of volume. Also, check out Wondershare Filmora 13 if you want a lifetime license. They've added a ton of AI features like smart cutout and silence detection recently. It's not exactly Hollywood-grade, but for most freelance gigs? It’s GREAT value. Tbh, I'd probably just start with the free version of CapCut Desktop and see if that covers it first. Plus, Descript Creator Plan is another one to look at if you like editing via a text transcript. Good luck!

@Reply #2 - good point! Hardware is a factor but honestly most of the budget AI tools are moving to the cloud anyway. I've been super satisfied with CapCut Pro Desktop Monthly Subscription lately for my quick turnaround projects. It's only about 8 bucks a month and the AI auto-captions are seriously impressive for that price point. No complaints here tbh. Another one I use is Wisecut Personal Plan which is roughly 10 bucks. It's great for taking a long interview and automatically cutting out all the awkward pauses and filler words. Saves me hours of tedious editing on the timeline. If you really want a one-time buy instead of a sub, Adobe Premiere Elements 2024 Full License is usually under a hundred bucks and has some decent smart trimming features. Its a solid choice if you're tired of the monthly sub model and dont want a massive learning curve...

Just saw this thread and honestly the budget struggle is real. Before I can give a solid technical recommendation tho, I kinda need to know more about your hardware setup. Are you planning to run these AI processes locally on your own GPU, or are you looking for a cloud-based SaaS solution where they handle the compute? Also, what kind of codecs and resolutions are you typically working with? There is a big difference in how these budget AI tools handle 10-bit 4K versus standard 8-bit footage, especially when it comes to things like smart masking or frame interpolation. Knowing your typical workflow volume would help too... like how many minutes of footage are you processing a week?

I have been researching budget-friendly options for my projects, but unfortunately, many available tools are quite disappointing regarding reliability. I had issues with several web-based platforms crashing during high-resolution exports, which is unacceptable for professional work. If you prioritize safety and file integrity, here are my findings:

  • DaVinci Resolve 19 Free Version: While the advanced AI features require a paid upgrade, the basic smart tools are exceptionally stable. It is the safest choice to avoid data loss.
  • Kdenlive Latest Version: This is an open-source tool that allows you to run AI speech-to-text modules locally. Since it doesnt rely on the cloud, your workflow stays private and secure.
  • Veed.io Basic Plan: This is priced at $18 per month. The AI auto-captioning is helpful, but the processing times were not as good as expected during my testing. I really wanted to find a more robust solution under $20, but the market seems filled with buggy software right now. Stick to these established names if you want to keep your files safe...
