What is the best AI tool for logo design?

Hey everyone! I’m currently in the process of launching a small e-commerce side project, and I’ve reached the point where I desperately need a professional-looking logo to make things official. Since I’m on a tight startup budget, hiring a high-end design agency isn’t really an option right now, so I’ve been exploring various AI-powered design tools to help bridge the gap.

I’ve played around with a few basic generators, but honestly, a lot of the results feel a bit generic or "clip-art" heavy. I’m looking for something that can produce a truly unique brand identity. Specifically, I need a tool that provides high-resolution vector files (like SVGs) so I can scale the logo for packaging and business cards without it getting pixelated. It would also be a huge plus if the platform allows for some manual editing after the AI generates the initial concepts—sometimes the AI gets the icon right, but the typography is totally off!

I've heard mixed reviews about using general generators like Midjourney versus dedicated logo platforms like Looka or Brandmark. For those of you who have actually used these for a real business project, which one do you think offers the best balance of creativity and technical usability? Is there a specific AI tool you’d recommend that feels more like a professional designer and less like a basic template generator?

Sooo I actually went through this exact nightmare when I launched my tech consulting brand. I started with those cheap generators and realized too late that the files were basically useless for printing. If you care about safety and long-term brand equity, you gotta be CAREFUL about licensing and vector quality.

I mean, some of these tools just spit out non-commercial clip art that could get you sued later, which is why I'm super cautious now. Based on my experience, here are two resources that actually handle the technical side properly:

1. Logo Ai Professional Plan: This is great because it actually generates high-res SVG and PDF files. The AI is smarter than most and doesn't just slap a random icon next to text. It also gives you a full brand kit with business card mockups.
2. Hatchful by Shopify: Honestly, for a free/budget resource, it's safer than most random sites. It's built for e-commerce, so the dimensions are always right for social and packaging.

But yeah, make sure you double-check the license terms before you print 500 boxes lol. Good luck with the launch!

sooo i’ve been down this rabbit hole way too many times lol. honestly if youre looking for a balance between 'pro designer' and 'i dont wanna spend $500,' Brandmark is usually my go-to. i mean, i’ve tried a bunch of them and Brandmark feels way less like generic clip-art than some of the others. plus they give u those svg files u need for packaging without it looking like a blurry mess...

for your situation, i wouldnt recommend Midjourney for the final logo. it’s amazing for inspiration but it literally cannot do typography or vectors properly yet. if u want to tweak things yourself, Looka has a slightly better editor for fonts and layout tbh, but their icons can feel a bit 'samey' after a while.

in my experience, just pay for the premium package on one of these dedicated tools. it’s worth it to get the full brand kit with the transparent backgrounds and vectors right away (at least thats what worked for me). anyway, hope that helps ur launch! peace

Tbh if ur really worried about scalability and technical standards, most of those 'logo makers' are just glorified clip-art databases - and the vector exports are usually messy. If u want a professional designer's workflow without the price tag, I'd highly recommend looking into Recraft.ai. It’s one of the only tools I've seen that generates actual vector paths natively, rather than just doing a quick trace of a pixelated image. For the manual editing and typography control - which, let's be real, most AI sucks at - check out Kittl. It has some great AI generation features but lets u refine the actual bezier curves and fonts manually. I mean, wait no... the most important thing is the legal side. Always double-check if the AI model used has a clean dataset for commercial use - basically just read the fine print before u go all in on a brand identity that might have copyright issues down the line. It's just safer that way.

I went through this last year when I was trying to get a side hustle off the ground, and honestly, the struggle is SO real. I spent weeks messing around with different tools because I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to design, but I knew I needed those crisp vector files for stickers and stuff. Unfortunately, my journey was a bit of a rollercoaster and I had some pretty disappointing results before I figured out the technical side.

Basically, here is how my experience broke down between the different "AI" approaches:

1. The Generator Route: I first tried Looka Logo Maker and it was super easy to use, but I felt kinda stuck with their templates. It’s great for getting ideas, but when I tried to make it look unique, it just felt... off? Plus, you gotta pay extra for the high-res assets.
2. The Creative Route: Then I went down the Midjourney v6 rabbit hole. The creativity is INSANE, seriously. But man, it’s a nightmare for logos cuz it can't do text at all (it's all gibberish) and it only spits out raster images (pixels), not SVGs.
3. The Middle Ground: I eventually messed with Adobe Illustrator and its new Text to Vector Graphic feature. This was highkey the most "professional" feeling because it actually generates real vectors you can edit.

I really wish there was a magic button, but I found that even with Brandmark.io, I still had to take the result into a basic editor to fix the spacing. It’s kinda frustrating that the AI gets the "vibe" right but fails on the technical polish. Anyway, just sharing my headache so you don't feel alone in it! gl with the launch! 👍

Regarding what #6 said about TIL! Thanks for sharing

  • I felt the same way until I actually tried printing my AI logo onto a physical sign. It was a total nightmare. Unfortunately, most of these tools promise the world but deliver messy paths that are a pain for long-term ownership. I had issues with the vector quality being so low that it basically ruined my first batch of business cards because the lines werent clean. If you're on a tight budget but want something that actually lasts, here's what worked for me:
  • Get Affinity Designer 2 for a one-time fee so you dont get stuck in a subscription loop while editing your files.
  • Look at LogoGround Premade Logos for high-quality, unique designs that are usually priced for startups and come with full rights.
  • Use Vecteezy Pro Monthly for just one month to grab some clean assets you can manually piece together. Paying a bit more upfront for a clean, non-AI source file saved me way more money in the long run. I didnt have to hire someone to fix a broken SVG later on. Dont let a cheap generator turn into a pricey repair job.
