I’ve been seeing all this stuff about AI and ChatGPT and honestly it’s making me feel kinda dumb lol. I work at a grocery store in a small town and everyone is talking about how robots are gonna take our jobs eventually but I dont even know what a prompt is really or how any of this actually functions. I tried to google it but everything looks so complicated and I just get overwhelmed by all the big words and technical talk.

I really want to learn but when I look it up on YouTube it’s all these guys talking about crazy math and coding and neural networks which sounds like something from a movie and I just shut down. I’m looking for an app I can use on my phone while I’m on the bus or during my lunch break. I live about 45 minutes away from my job so I have plenty of time to kill while I’m commuting and I figure I should do something more productive than just scrolling social media.

Heres what I’m looking for:

  • Something very beginner friendly like for someone who knows absolutely nothing
  • Needs to be cheap or free because I can only spend maybe $20 or $30 a month max right now
  • Must have an app for iPhone because I dont have a working laptop at the moment just my phone and an old tablet
  • No heavy coding right away because I tried to download something called Python and I almost broke my head trying to figure it out

I just want to understand how this stuff works so I’m not totally lost when people are talking about it at work. Is there something like Duolingo but for AI stuff? I want it to be fun and not feel like a boring textbook from school. Sorry if this is a really basic question but I honestly have no idea where to even start or what is actually good versus what is just a scam. Does anyone have a favorite they used when they were starting out from zero?...

> Is there something like Duolingo but for AI stuff? Try Brilliant.org Interactive Learning Subscription iOS App. Its basically the Duolingo of science and tech. I used it to learn the basics of how neural networks function without any math or coding. The app is a decent option for your commute since it works perfectly on iPhone. It usually costs about $13 to $20 a month, so it stays within your budget. It really makes the technical talk easier to swallow.

Late to the party but I was in your shoes a year ago. Honestly, I felt kinda overwhelmed by those tech bros on YouTube too. I would suggest you might want to consider Khan Academy Educational App for iOS first. Its totally free and doesn't get too technical. Quick tips:

  • Check your library for free access to LinkedIn Learning Mobile App
  • Be careful not to buy pricey certificates yet Make sure to pace yourself so you dont burn out...

> Is there something like Duolingo but for AI stuff? I have been using DataCamp Learn Data Science and AI Mobile App for a while now and honestly I am so satisfied with it. It is probably the closest thing to the Duolingo style you will find. They have these bite-sized lessons you can do in 5 minutes. Look for the AI Fundamentals track. It explains the logic and the terms without making you write a single line of code, which sounds perfect for your bus ride. No complaints about the interface either, it just works. Another one that works well is the Coursera Mobile App for iPhone. Specifically, look up a course called AI for Everyone by Andrew Ng. I watched the whole thing on my lunch breaks last year. He is a genius but talks like a regular person, no crazy math or scary movie talk. You can usually audit the classes for free so it wont cost you anything unless you want the paper certificate at the end. Also, if you want to understand what a prompt is, just download the OpenAI ChatGPT Official iOS App and start talking to it. Its free. Tell it you work at a grocery store and ask it to explain its own technology using grocery store analogies. It is actually really good at that. No need to feel dumb, most people are just faking it till they make it with this stuff anyway.
