Hey everyone! I’m just starting to dip my toes into content creation for YouTube and TikTok, but I’m quickly realizing that manual editing is incredibly time-consuming. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about AI video editing software that can automate the boring stuff like trimming silences, adding captions, and even suggesting B-roll, but every time I find a tool that looks cool, the subscription price is way out of my league.
Since I’m a total beginner, I don’t need a professional-grade suite like Premiere Pro yet. I’m looking for something that is intuitive and, most importantly, easy on the wallet. My budget is ideally under $15–$20 a month, or even better, a one-time purchase if those still exist! I’ve tried the free version of CapCut and looked into Descript, but I’m curious if there are other hidden gems that offer better AI features for a lower price point. I’m specifically looking for tools that have good 'smart cutting' features to help me get through raw footage faster.
Does anyone have a go-to AI editor that is actually affordable for hobbyists? I’d love to hear what you guys are using and whether you think the paid features are worth it for someone just starting out!
- I would suggest Gling.ai.
- Unfortunately Descript is too pricey now. Gling.ai is cheaper for cutting silences, but the AI isn't as good as I expected tho!
In my experience, you should check out Wondershare Filmora 13. Its actually one of the few that still offers a one-time perpetual license (around $80), which is a lifesaver for ur budget.
- AI Silence Detection: Really solid for cutting raw footage fast.
- Smart Cutout: Great for b-roll and masking.
Basically, it gives you those 'pro' AI features without the crazy monthly fees. Honestly, its a steal for beginners. gl!

Ok so, I went through this last year! Similar situation here—I was drowning in raw footage and literally losing my mind over manual trimming. I actually spent weeks testing different workflows to find that sweet spot between cost and technical efficiency. I eventually landed on Wisecut for my rough cuts. Honestly, their AI jump-cut logic is AMAZING because it uses voice activity detection (VAD) to snip silences way more accurately than the basic tools I used before. It basically creates a "talking-head" edit in seconds by analyzing audio waveforms to detect speech gaps!
I also upgraded to CapCut Desktop Pro which is like $8-10/month and highkey worth it for the auto-captioning and scene recognition. It's technically way more robust than the mobile app for handling 4K timelines. I mean, ur just starting out, but having that technical overhead for smoother rendering is sooo nice. Idk but I think for under $20, these are ur best bets for smart cutting. Love the energy ur bringing to this! gl!!
