Hey everyone! I’m currently heading into my sophomore year as an engineering major, and the math is starting to get seriously intense. I’m currently juggling Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra, and I’ve reached a point where my trusty old TI-84 and standard Google searches just aren’t cutting it anymore.

I’ve tried using general AI tools like ChatGPT to help me understand some of the more complex proofs and triple integrals, but I’ve run into a major issue: hallucinations. A few times now, it has given me a very confident-sounding explanation that turned out to be mathematically impossible, or it skipped three crucial steps in a derivation that I actually needed to understand for my midterm. It’s frustrating because I’m not just looking for the final answer to finish my homework—I actually need to learn the logic behind the steps so I can pass my exams.

I’m looking for recommendations for an AI tool that is specifically optimized for high-level mathematics. Ideally, I need something that can handle handwritten notes (maybe via a photo) and provide a clear, step-by-step breakdown of things like Laplace transforms or eigenvactor calculations. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Photomath for university-level stuff, and I’ve seen some people mention WolframAlpha’s AI integrations or Symbolab, but I’m not sure which one is actually worth the subscription cost.

Since I often do my best studying late at night when my TAs and tutors aren't available, having a reliable 'AI tutor' would be a total lifesaver. I need something that is accurate 99% of the time and can explain the 'why' behind a formula rather than just spitting out a result.

Oh man, similar situation here—I went through this last year. Honestly, relying on just one AI is kinda risky for engineering. I tried Microsoft Math Solver because its free, but I mean... I realy felt like I had to double-check it against my textbook just to be safe. My journey showed me that even 'safe' tools make mistakes, cuz verifying the logic yourself is key. It's a lifesaver for multivariable calculus cuz it actually uses a computational engine, not just word prediction. And I also used Symbolab for step-by-step stuff. But for 99% accuracy, you honestly gotta go with WolframAlpha Pro Student Plan. It’s about $5/month and handles multivariable logic without the hallucination junk... plus the app handles photo inputs of notes way better. In my experience, it’s the only one that gets eigenvectors right. TL;DR: Symbolab for steps, but Wolfram is the gold standard for accuracy.

Similar situation here - I went through this last year. Honestly, ChatGPT is sooo bad for eigenvactor logic. I basically switched to using WolframAlpha Pro for the heavy proofs and Symbolab for step-by-step breakdowns. - WolframAlpha Pro gave me the accurate derivations
- Symbolab was great for visualizing integrals But yeah, be careful... even tools like these can glitch if ur handwriting is messy. I learned to trust symbolic engines way more than LLMs!
