Best VS Code extension for integrating DeepSeek Coder into my workflow?

So ive been hearing all this hype about DeepSeek Coder V2 and how it actually beats GPT-4 in some coding benchmarks which is kinda insane to me. I really want to switch away from Github Copilot because the ten bucks a month feels like a waste when I could just pay for what I use via API. I did some digging and found Continue.dev which looks cool but then I also saw people talking about the official DeepSeek extension in the marketplace and some others mention Roo Code.

The problem is I am totally lost on which one is actually better for a daily workflow. I tried looking at Continue but the configuration file looks like a bit of a nightmare and I dont want to spend hours debugging my editor settings when I have a deadline for this freelance React project for a local bakery next Friday. Plus I am on an older 2020 MacBook and I definitely cannot run these models locally using Ollama or anything like that, so it has to be API based.

Here is what I am looking for:

  • Needs to be super snappy with the ghost text autocomplete style
  • Easy API key integration since I am not hosting locally
  • Simple setup because I am not a devops pro
  • Good chat interface for when I get stuck on weird CSS bugs

Is Continue really the gold standard here or is there something simpler that just works out of the box? I just want to plug in my key and start coding without having to learn a whole new config language...

Honestly, I had issues with Continue Continue.dev VS Code Extension too. The JSON config is a total nightmare and unfortunately it is just not as good as expected for a quick setup.

  • Try Cline Cline Open Source AI Assistant instead
  • It connects to DeepSeek DeepSeek-V2 API way faster
  • Setup is direct and wont waste your time before Friday

> JSON config is a total nightmare. Couldnt agree more! If you want to save money, definitely check out CodeGPT VS Code Extension. It is amazing for DeepSeek API integration.

  • Easy UI for keys (no JSON files)
  • Fast ghost text autocomplete
  • Zero cost besides your usage I love it for freelance work... keeps overhead super low while staying snappy!
