Im seriously at my wits end here. Ive spent the last three days trying to get DeepSeek V4 Pro to run locally on my current rig and it just crashes every single time I try to load the model. Its driving me insane because I have a project due next week and I cant even get a single prompt to finish without my fans sounding like a jet engine before the whole thing just dies. Im in the UK and I have about 3k to drop on a new build if I have to but I dont even know where to start with GPU VRAM requirements. Does anyone actually have a stable setup for this that wont break the bank or am I just being stupid?

Look, dealing with OOM crashes when youre just trying to get work done is literally the worst. Regarding what #1 said about being at your wits end, they arent kidding about the memory requirements. Honestly, trying to run a model that size on consumer hardware is a nightmare unless you have the VRAM to back it up. If you are gonna drop 3k, dont just throw it at random parts. Here is the deal if you want stability:

  • You absolutely need dual NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X cards if you can find them used, or go for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X if the budget stretches. You need that 24GB VRAM per card or youre just gonna be swapping to system RAM and crashing constantly.
  • Make sure your power supply is beefy enough. Dont skimp here. Grab a Corsair RM1200x Shift 1200W 80 Plus Gold because those transients will kill a cheaper unit.
  • Use a solid motherboard that handles PCIe lane bifurcation so both cards actually run at decent speeds. Just be careful with the cooling, man. Those cards run insanely hot when you push them for inference. If you dont have a case with massive airflow like a Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL, you are basically building a toaster. Take a breath, dont rush the build, and make sure your cooling setup is overkill.

Late to the party but I totally agree with the others. Honestly, I tried building a similar rig last month and had issues with heat, which was just disappointing. You really need consistent power and cooling for these models. I ended up swapping to a Corsair RM1000x 1000W Gold Certified unit just to keep things stable. Dont skimp on the PSU, honestly, otherwise youll just be chasing ghost crashes while your project deadline looms.

Ive spent the last three days trying to get DeepSeek V4 Pro to run locally on my current rig and it just crashes every single time I totally get the frustration, man. Dealing with OOM errors is the worst, especially when you have a deadline looming! Honestly, trying to cram a model that size onto consumer-grade hardware without enough VRAM is a recipe for disaster. The fans spinning up like a jet engine is just your card screaming for mercy before it chokes on the weights. For a build like this, you really need to prioritize massive VRAM buffers. Seriously, don't skimp on the GPU memory or you're gonna have a bad time. Aim for a multi-GPU setup if you can, it makes everything so much snappier. Keep pushing, you got this!
