Are there any good AI story generators for young children?

I’m looking for an AI story generator to use with my 6-year-old, but I’m struggling to find one that feels safe and age-appropriate. My goal is to find a tool that can help us co-create bedtime stories with positive themes and simple vocabulary. I’ve tried a few general AI tools, but they sometimes get a bit too complex or dark for a first grader. Ideally, I’d love something with a 'kid-safe' filter and maybe the ability to add our own family members as characters. Does anyone have experience with a specific app or site that is truly designed for young children? I'd appreciate any suggestions that prioritize safety and educational value!

Sooo I actually went through this exact same search for my kindergartener! General AI is way too risky, tbh. I ended up using Once Upon a Bot cuz it's super budget-friendly. They have a free tier to test, and the paid plans are only like $5-10 which is basically nothing for the peace of mind. It stays strictly G-rated and lets you add custom characters so my daughter's 'grandma' is in every story lol. It's way safer than ChatGPT and worth the few bucks for the safety filters alone imo!

Quick question - before I dive into the tech specs, are u looking for something with a high monthly story limit or just a few tales a week?? Like, I'm pretty new to this but I've been geeking out on the different token systems and credit costs cuz some of these apps get REALLY expensive if u use them every night!! Honestly, I'm all about getting the most bang for your buck lol. Anyway, I've heard BedtimeStory AI Premium Plan is amazing for the family character feature, but the pricing varies so much... lmk your budget and I'll find the best specs for u!! peace

Honestly, watch out for general chatbots like ChatGPT because they highkey lack safety guardrails for a 6-year-old. I tried one and it got super dark out of nowhere... scary stuff! I finally switched to BedtimeStory AI and it's basically what you're looking for. You can literally add your family as characters and it keeps the vocabulary simple. It was a total game changer for us, though I wish the free version had more credits!
