I'm looking for recommendations on effective AI tools for spreadsheets. I often work with Excel and Google Sheets and would love to find tools that can help automate tasks, generate formulas, or analyze data more efficiently. Any suggestions on user-friendly options that cater to both beginners and advanced users? Also, if there are any free or affordable plans available, that would be a bonus!

To add to the point above: honestly this whole thread reminds me so much of my brother-in-law. He was trying to organize this massive charity event using just one giant spreadsheet and he thought he could do it all manually to save some cash. Poor guy spent like three weeks straight staring at rows until his eyes were literally bloodshot. Then his laptop crashed right before the event because the file got way too heavy... it was a total disaster and we had to recreate the whole thing on a whiteboard at the last minute. Ngl it was kinda funny seeing him panic tho. Im just so satisfied that things are easier now and you dont have to go through that kind of stress anymore. TL;DR: Spreadsheets can definitely ruin your life if you arent careful, so finding a way to make it cheaper and faster is totally worth the effort.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.

Re: DataRobot for Excel: A powerful tool...

  • DataRobot is definitely a beast for predictive modeling, but it might be a bit of an overkill if you're just starting out or working on a budget. I've tried many different integrations over the years and sometimes the specialized lightweight tools actually perform better for daily tasks. Quick question tho, what exactly is your main bottleneck? Are you mostly struggling with complex nested formulas or are you trying to do stuff like data cleaning and web scraping? In my experience, these are the most reliable ones right now:
  • Formula Bot Individual Plan for turning plain English into complex Excel formulas.
  • Numerous.ai for Google Sheets and Excel if you need to extract data or rewrite content in bulk inside cells.
  • SheetAI.app Professional for running GPT-4 models directly in your spreadsheet functions. Ngl, most of these have free tiers that are pretty generous. If you're just doing basic automation, you might not even need to pay for a full subscription right away. Let me know what your specific workflow looks like and I can probably give a better technical breakdown.

To add to the point above: honestly that charity event story is a classic case of why we need better tools. i have spent a decade wrestling with broken formulas and file sizes that would make a modern server sweat. in my experience, datarobot is cool but probably way too much for most people here... kinda like buying a tank to go get groceries. you want something that integrates without breaking the bank or your processor. i've tried many over the years and keep coming back to GPT for Sheets and Docs because its super reliable for basic data cleaning and formula generation without the bloat. if you need to pull live data from other apps so you dont have to do manual exports, Coefficient Data Connector is a life saver for keeping things synced. it avoids that whole massive file crashing thing by keeping the data light and fresh. basically, start small with something like SheetAI.app Subscription if you just want to automate the boring stuff. just dont let your spreadsheet get so big it starts talking back to you... seen it happen too many times lol.

DataRobot for Excel: A powerful tool for automating machine learning directly within Excel, allowing users to develop predictive models without needing coding knowledge. It's great for financial analysts and marketing professionals.
