I’m currently planning a complete makeover for my living room and home office, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the layout possibilities. I’ve seen some cool videos of people using AI to visualize furniture placements and color palettes, but I’m not sure which apps are actually worth the subscription. I’ve tried a couple of free tools, but the renders look a bit cartoonish. I really need something that can handle realistic lighting and maybe even suggest specific furniture styles based on a photo of my current space. Has anyone here had success with specific platforms for floor planning or 3D visualization? I'd love to know which AI tools you think provide the most realistic results for a DIY decorator.

Story time: i tried [[PRODUCT:REimagineHome AI]] last year for my office and honestly... the lighting was so weird?? i basically gave up and used [[PRODUCT:Midjourney V6]] for realistic vibes instead. gl!

Good to know!

Honestly, I've tried a bunch over the years and most are basically toys. [[PRODUCT:Interior AI]] is okay for quick vibes, but the lighting often looks super fake. If you want actual realism, I'd suggest [[PRODUCT:Homestyler VIP Subscription]] instead. It’s got a steeper learning curve but the renders are highkey better than [[PRODUCT:Planner 5D]]. Also, [[PRODUCT:RoomGPT.io]] is cool for instant color swaps, but it struggles with specific furniture placement. Stick with Homestyler if you want it to look real!

+1 to what was said earlier! Just be CAREFUL with ur data on free sites, honestly go with Adobe if u want something SAFER for ur private home photos lol.

I totally agree with ElijahVaf that most of these basic apps are just toys, tbh. If you really want to dive into the technical side for long-term planning and get that realism you're after, you should check out Foyr Neo Professional Plan. It is more of a pro-sumer tool, but the lighting engine is way ahead of the free stuff because it uses dedicated cloud-based ray tracing which handles shadows way better. Another one that is getting big in the architecture world is PromeAI Professional Edition. It is great because it lets you upload a photo and uses specific rendering models to keep the dimensions realistic instead of just hallucinating random furniture. If you are looking for something you can keep tweaking for years, honestly getting Sketchup Pro 2024 and adding the Veras AI for SketchUp plugin is the gold standard. It gives you that AI speed for materials and lighting but with the precision of a real 3D model. Definitely worth the learning curve if you want it to actually look like your room in real life!

Honestly, the lighting in most web-based AI tools is super disappointing. I had issues with PromeAI Professional Plan because the global illumination just doesnt handle light bounce correctly in-browser. It ends up looking flat and cartoonish like you mentioned. Compatibility is the biggest headache tho. Most of these sites wont export to .obj or .dwg, which makes them useless for actual planning. If you want actual realism, you might need D5 Render 2.8 Pro but it requires a beefy GPU with at least 8GB VRAM to run the path tracing properly. Most of these DIY browser apps are basically just toys right now.
