honestly im about two seconds away from throwing my monitor out the window because of how long these manual masks are taking me lately. ive been using premiere for years but the auto features are honestly a joke and just keep crashing my rig whenever i try to do anything complex. so my logic was that there has to be some actual professional grade AI out there that isnt just for making weird tiktok memes right?? im working on this mini-doc for a client in downtown chicago and the deadline is literally this friday and i still have like six hours of b-roll to sort through and color grade. i tried playing around with descript for the talking heads part but it felt kinda clunky for a high-end finish and then i looked at runway but im mostly seeing stuff that looks like a trip and not actual utility tools. i need stuff for like... real rotoscoping that doesnt take five hours per shot or something that can actually handle noise reduction without making everyone look like they are made of plastic.

my budget is maybe like 60 or 80 bucks a month if the tool actually works but im so tired of paying for subscriptions that promise the world and then just glitch out. i was thinking about switching to davinci resolve because everyone says the neural engine is the goat but i dont know if i have time to learn a whole new workflow before friday.

so far ive looked at:

  • runway for the green screen stuff
  • topaz labs for the upscaling
  • some random premiere plugins that didnt even load right

are there plugins for premiere that actually use AI well or should i just bite the bullet and jump ship to a different platform entirely?? im looking for stuff that handles the grunt work like object removal and audio cleanup because im drowning here and the manual way just isnt sustainable anymore for the amount of work im taking on lately. like is there a specific tool that changed the game for you guys because i feel like im stuck in 2015 while everyone else is using magic...

In my experience Boris FX Mocha Pro 2024 is the pro choice for masking when Premiere fails.

  • Waves Clarity Vx Pro Noise Reduction Plugin for audio Both are reliable workhorses.

To add to the point above: I disagree that these AI tools are ready. Honestly Neat Video Pro v5 Noise Reduction Plugin is better than Topaz but AI just dont work sometimes.

Hard agree on the Premiere frustration, unfortunately it just keeps falling behind lately. I tried using those random plugins too but they mostly just crash...

  • Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio 19: Its Magic Mask is the goat for rotoscoping. It tracks well.
  • Topaz Labs Video AI 5: Good for noise but not as good as expected for speed. It kills my export times. Bite the bullet and switch to Resolve tho, it makes masking tolerable.

Totally agree with the guys above, getting away from the manual mask grind is a total game changer! I love how much time these new tools save, tho I honestly worry about system stability when pushing AI hard. To help out:

  • What specific GPU are you running?
  • Do you need the tool to stay inside your editor? Just dont want you wasting money on stuff that wont run!
