So I have been trying to get my new YouTube channel off the ground for about three months now, but editing is seriously killing me. I am based here in Chicago and between my full-time job and my commute, I honestly only have like five hours a week to actually cut video. My goal is to make these short, punchy tech reviews, but I spend way too long just trimming the dead air and trying to color grade stuff that ends up looking orange anyway. I have a budget of maybe 50 bucks a month, tops.
I have been doing some digging online and saw a lot of people swearing by Descript for the text-based editing, which sounds amazing because I hate re-watching my own footage to find the good bits. But then I saw others saying that Adobe Premiere is integrating AI features that are way more powerful for professional workflows. I tried playing around with the trial for Premiere, but it felt super overwhelming and I dont really need to be a Hollywood editor, I just need to not spend six hours on a ten-minute video. Is Descript actually good enough for a solo creator or am I going to hit a wall in like two months? And what about stuff like Opus Clip for the shorts? I keep seeing ads for it but I dont know if its just hype or if it actually handles the cropping decently.
Everything feels so scattered right now. Some forums say go full AI with everything, others say these tools just make the editing look robotic and cheap. I really need something that can handle basic cuts, maybe some decent auto-captioning, and help me color correct without me needing to watch a ten-hour tutorial on LUTs. Has anyone actually used these tools long-term for this kind of stuff or am I just being lazy by looking for an AI shortcut...

Also, do you really need super high resolution or is 1080p totally fine for your tech reviews?

Ugh, I have this exact same problem. I have been stuck in this editing rut for months now and still cant figure out a workflow that doesnt feel like a total grind.

Oh man, I am in the exact same boat as you. I have been pulling my hair out trying to balance my editing workflow for about four months now, and honestly, nothing seems to click without feeling like I am fighting the software.

Editing doesnt have to be a nightmare if you leverage the right automation tools to handle the heavy lifting! After using these for a long time, I find that keeping your hardware consistent is just as important as the software choices. If you want to speed up your color workflow without diving into complex grading, start using these:
- Adobe Premiere Elements 2024 for the built-in AI guided edits that automate the boring stuff.
- Logitech Litra Beam Premium LED Streaming Light to get your lighting perfect on the first take, which saves hours of post-production correction. To add to the point above: tbh Opus Clip is a bit overhyped. Try CapCut Desktop Version for quick auto-captions and basic grades instead. Honestly, it saved me way more time.
