Is there actually an AI app that goes beyond basic vocabulary flashcards for language learning right now? Ive been using Duolingo and Babbel for years to keep my Spanish sharp but honestly the grammar explanations are getting so repetitive and I need something that actually feels like a real conversation. I have a trip to Mexico City coming up in about three months and I really want to be able to hold my own in local markets and cafes without sounding like a robotic textbook.
I tried a couple of those chatbot apps but they just felt super scripted and buggy. I dont mind paying a subscription fee if it actually works, maybe around 20 bucks a month, but I really need something with natural speech recognition so I can practice my pronunciation. It feels like every time I find one that looks promising it just turns out to be another glorified quiz game. Has anyone found something that actually forces you to engage in complex dialogue or am I just chasing a unicorn here? I just want to stop blanking out when someone talks back to me at a normal speed...
Been thinking about your setup since I saw this earlier! If you want to move past the quiz-game loop, you gotta try TalkPal or maybe even LingQ. They use much more complex engines than the typical apps. I personally found that using Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Generation with MagSafe Case makes a massive difference because the mic array is so clean for speech recognition.
Tbh most of those apps are just marketing hype masking basic logic trees. Since you are headed to Mexico City soon, you need something that handles real-time phonetic analysis and non-linear dialogue. I would suggest looking at OpenAI ChatGPT Plus Subscription for the advanced voice mode. It is basically the only thing right now with a low enough latency to feel like a real conversation rather than a laggy robot. Just be careful with the following:
