I've been working on a high-fantasy novel lately, but I'm struggling with keeping my world-building consistent. Most tools I try seem to lose the plot after 2,000 words.

I need something that handles:

  • deep character memory
  • complex plot branching

What's the best AI tool for managing long-form creative writing projects right now?

Honestly, try NovelCrafter Creative Writing Software with Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet 200k Context. The Codex database and massive context window are essential for world-building consistency without that 2k word drop-off.

I totally agree that Claude is the gold standard for logic right now, but if youre really struggling with that 2,000 word drop-off, you seriously need to look at Google Gemini 1.5 Pro. The massive 2-million token context window is a literal game changer for high-fantasy projects. You can feed it your entire world-building bible plus twenty chapters and it actually remembers the naming conventions for your magic systems or specific family lineages. Its basically impossible for it to lose the plot because it keeps the whole book in its active memory. If you prefer a more structured workflow, Sudowrite Story Engine is also incredible. I use the $19 a month starter plan and it works wonders. It has a dedicated Story Bible feature that acts like a permanent memory bank for your characters and lore. I found it way better for plot branching because you can map out chapters individually while the AI stays consistent with the facts youve already locked in.

OMG I feel this deep in my soul! Its so frustrating when you spend forever setting up a kingdom and the AI just... forgets it exists after two chapters. I was spending a fortune on monthly subs and still getting total nonsense back once my story got long, it was honestly driving me crazy and felt like such a waste of money. If you want a way cheaper fix, I definitely recommend using OpenRouter API Credits paired with SillyTavern Local LLM Interface. It lets you create Lorebooks which basically act as a permanent brain for your world-building so the AI doesnt lose the plot. I use Meta Llama 3 70B Instruct through it and it costs pennies compared to a 20 dollar sub! The control you get over the memory is honestly fantastic. TL;DR: Use SillyTavern plus OpenRouter with Llama 3. Its way cheaper since you pay per word and the Lorebook feature keeps your world-building perfectly consistent.
