I'm considering subscribing to an AI service but I'm overwhelmed by the options available. Can anyone recommend which AI service would be best for general use? I'm particularly interested in chatbots and generative AI capabilities. What are the pros and cons of popular options like ChatGPT Plus, Gemini Advanced, or others?

Ive been through the wringer with these different services over the last couple of years and honestly I have become way more cautious about where I put my money. Reliability and safety are everything to me now since I use these tools for work daily. I used to jump on every new thing that popped up but I realized that having a dependable tool that doesnt behave wildly or change its personality every week is worth way more than any fancy new feature. In my experience:

  • Stick to the major players with solid track records
  • Look for companies that actually have clear safety guidelines
  • One stable subscription is better than three experimental ones Honestly, just get a pro plan from Anthropic. You really cant go wrong with a brand like that if you want something that feels consistent and safe for long-term use. I have tried so many others but I always end up back with the established names because they just feel more mature and reliable...

Yo, just saw this thread. Honestly i have spent way too much money trying out all these subs over the last year just to see which one actually stays online when i need it most. Reliability is huge for me cause i hate it when a service goes down right when i have a deadline. Here is what i found for keeping costs low while staying productive:

  • Claude 3.5 Sonnet has been super reliable and the free tier is surprisingly generous compared to others.
  • Poe Subscription is a great deal if you want to swap between models like Gemini and GPT without paying for two separate subs.
  • Just using the free version of Microsoft Copilot basically gives you GPT-4 power without the monthly bill. I ended up cancelling my ChatGPT sub a few months back because i found i could get 90% of what i needed for zero dollars elsewhere. If you're just starting out, dont feel like you gotta drop $20 right away just to get the good stuff.

So i have been messing with these things since the early gpt-2 days and honestly i have wasted so much cash on monthly subs i barely used. A while back i decided to simplify to save my bank account and i am really satisfied with how it is working out now. No complaints at all. I found that chasing every new $20 sub was just overkill for what i actually needed daily. Here is what has been working for my budget lately:

  • I switched to Perplexity Pro Yearly Subscription because it actually includes access to several different models like Claude and GPT anyway, so it is like a two-for-one deal.
  • For creative stuff i just use the Midjourney Basic Plan which is super cheap compared to the higher tiers if you dont need the fast hours.
  • I stopped subbing to everything at once and now i just rotate based on which company is offering a free trial or a discount code that month. Finding that balance made life so much easier. Tbh i think people overcomplicate it by wanting every single feature when one good all-in-one tool usually does the trick... saves a lot of stress and money in the long run.

I've been using ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) for the past year and find it excellent for general use. The GPT-4 model is very capable for writing, analysis, and coding. Pros: Large user community, lots of custom GPTs, good mobile app. Cons: Can be slow during peak times, occasional downtime.

Currently free services such as Grok 3 or DeepSeek are very well.
