honestly im getting so fed up with having like fifty tabs open just to use chatgpt while i work. its totally killing my focus and i feel like im wasting half my day just copy-pasting stuff back and forth from my docs. im a freelance copywriter based in berlin and i have this massive deadline on friday so i really need to streamline this like yesterday.

im looking for something that:

  • works directly inside google docs or word
  • doesnt cost an extra fortune on top of my plus sub
  • can actually summarize my long research notes without crashing

does anyone actually have a setup that works without all the constant tab switching because im about to lose my mind...

Been thinking about this, and since I've spent years testing buggy extensions, be careful. Might want to consider Harpa AI Automation Agent Chrome Extension for summaries, but save a backup first...

In my experience, that tab-switching fatigue is the quickest way to burn out. Ive been freelancing for over a decade and honestly, I've tried many of those shiny new tools before realizing the simplest setups are always better on the wallet. I used to have 20 tabs open for research notes alone until I switched to a lean setup that leverages the API instead of the web UI. Since you are already paying for Plus, you really want to avoid those monthly AI workspace subscriptions that charge 20 or 30 bucks just for a pretty interface. Here is what I use to keep costs low and focus high:

  • GPT for Google Sheets and Docs Workspace Extension
  • This is the gold standard for your workflow. It sits right in the Google Docs sidebar. I have processed massive research docs with this and it doesnt crash like the browser tab.
  • TypingMind License Key Standard Version
  • Its a one-time fee instead of a sub. You plug in your own API key and it is way more stable for heavy lifting.
  • OpenAI API GPT-4o Model Access
  • Switching to pay-as-you-go for the heavy research summaries usually costs me pennies compared to a separate tool sub. Using the API via these tools usually costs me like three dollars a month even with heavy use, which is pocket change compared to those overpriced copywriter suites. Ngl, it saved my sanity during a huge project last month. Just stick to the API-based tools and you wont look back... trust me on that one.
