Hey everyone! I’ve been spending way too much time manually cleaning messy data and trying to figure out complex nested IF statements in my spreadsheets. I’ve heard that integrating ChatGPT can be a game-changer for automating these tasks, but I’m a bit lost on the best approach. Should I be looking into specific VBA scripts to call the API directly, or are there any reliable third-party add-ins that actually work without being buggy? I'm specifically looking to categorize long strings of customer feedback and generate formulas on the fly. Does anyone have a preferred method that’s stable enough for daily work? What’s the most seamless way you’ve found to get ChatGPT and Excel working together?
hey, I feel u on those nested IF statements, they're literally the worst... basically a nightmare. In my experience, if ur looking for stability, I would suggest staying away from custom VBA scripts unless you're prepared to fix them every time the API updates. It's kinda risky for daily production work tbh. For your situation, I've found Numerous.ai to be pretty solid for categorizing strings and drafting formulas on the fly. Another reliable one is Coefficient ChatGPT for Excel which is pretty reputable. But seriously... be careful with customer feedback data. Make sure you aren't violating any privacy policies by sending PII (personally identifiable info) to the cloud! It’s easy to get carried away, but security is priority one. Anyway, those add-ins are much more seamless than DIY coding. hope that helps! peace 👍
sooo i went through this last year trying to save a buck. basically tried the vba route and it was a total nightmare... srsly dont do it. i ended up using GPT for Excel Word because the pay-as-you-go ended up way cheaper than those $30/mo subs mentioned earlier. it has a free tier too which is nice. just had to watch my tokens but it made feedback cleanup way easier. gl!
For your situation, I would suggest skipping the VBA route entirely. Ngl, it’s a maintenance nightmare long-term. Tbh, these add-ins are much more reliable: * Numerous.ai: Best for bulk categorizing feedback and cleaning messy strings.
* Excel Formula Bot: Way better for generating complex formulas on the fly. Just be careful with ur API costs... those tokens add up SO fast! gl
stumbled on this and man... unfortunately most of these tools look great for a week then just fall apart when things get real. i've had so many issues with stability once the data starts piling up. quick question tho before i give you the veteran talk - what's the actual scale here? are we talking a few hundred rows of feedback or are you trying to crunch thousands every single morning? also, do you have strict privacy rules at work? honestly, if you're handling sensitive stuff, most of those third-party bots are a total non-starter. tl;dr: most solutions are buggy long-term. need to know your data volume and security requirements to give a better answer.
Can confirm
Subbing for updates
Totally agree with everyone saying skip the custom VBA scripts... honestly, unless ur a glutton for punishment, it's just gonna break next week. I’ve seen so many spreadsheets crash because of minor API updates or credential issues. If ur looking for a more professional DIY direction without paying for those expensive middleman subscriptions, I’d say just stick with the Microsoft ecosystem. Tbh, I prefer a self-service route using a script-based approach over those third-party add-ins for a few reasons: * Privacy is key—you keep ur data within the brand's official environment...
* Way more control over how messy customer strings are actually parsed.
* Basically saves a ton of money on token markups from other devs. Just go with Microsoft, you really can't go wrong if you want something that actually stays stable for daily tasks. Just be super careful about what data ur uploading to any AI!!!”
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
Regarding what #10 said about "Lol I was literally about to post the..."
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
Seconded!
