Hey everyone! I’ve been using ChatGPT a ton lately for work, but the vanilla interface feels a bit limiting for my workflow. I’m specifically looking for extensions that offer prompt libraries, sidebar access while browsing, or better ways to export my conversations. What are the absolute must-have extensions you're using to really boost your productivity right now?
Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Paid tools werent as good as expected, total rip-offs... just get AIPRM for ChatGPT or ChatGPT to Notion. Theyre free and all you need, ngl.
> "the vanilla interface is basically like driving a Ferrari with a wooden steering wheel" Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Loading up on extensions can actually be a security risk, tbh. For a sidebar, Monica AI Assistant is powerful but heavy. If you want something leaner, ChatGPT Writer works well for specific tasks. Basically, Option A gives you features, while Option B protects your workflow speed. It depends on your needs, but always check those permissions first!
Same setup here, love it
Bookmarked, thanks!
My buddy told me the exact same thing last week. Guess he was right lol.
I’ve been down the rabbit hole with those heavy "wrapper" extensions too, but lately I’ve been stripping back to a more DIY setup. Here’s how my workflow evolved: 1. At first, I was paying for a big suite, but it felt like bloat. Tbh, half the time I was fighting the UI more than actually getting work done. I realized I didn't need a massive library of 5,000 prompts I'd never use.
2. My current setup is way leaner. I started using built-in browser shortcuts to launch specific queries. It’s basically a "hack" where you use the address bar to trigger ur most-used templates. It’s faster than any sidebar I’ve tried and keeps ur browser from lagging. 3. For saving stuff, I stopped relying on those "one-click" export tools. I had a bad experience where the one I got stopped being supported and I lost a bunch of logs. Now I just use a quick keyboard shortcut to pipe text into my own local files. It’s a bit more manual, but sooo much more reliable in the long run.
Commenting to find later
Just saw this thread and felt like I should share my own transition. A few months ago I was basically a lab rat testing every new GPT wrapper, but then I started looking at the network logs and realized how much data some of these were scraping. If you are looking for a balance between power and security, you might want to consider a more methodical approach to what you install.
Honestly its so refreshing to see people calling out the bloat because the pricing on some of these tools is just pure insanity! Love the energy in this thread but man, the way these devs think their basic wrapper is worth a monthly sub is such a scam. It drives me crazy how they expect us to shell out hundreds a year for stuff that should be native.
Sooo, I totally feel u on this. Honestly, the vanilla interface is basically like driving a Ferrari with a wooden steering wheel lol. Over the years, I've tried many different setups, and I remember back in the early days I was manually copy-pasting every single prompt and result into a Notion doc... it was literally killing my soul and wasting hours of my life. In my experience, you definitely want to grab AIPRM first. It’s kinda the gold standard for prompt libraries and completely overhauls the home screen with thousands of templates for SEO, coding, or whatever you’re into. For that sidebar access you mentioned, I highkey recommend checking out Sider or maybe Monica. They let u pull up the AI on any website ur browsing, which is super clutch when ur trying to summarize a long technical doc or draft an email reply without constantly switching tabs. For exporting, I usually go with something simple like 'ChatGPT Prompt Genius'—it lets u save chats as PDF or Markdown really easily. But yeah, big lesson learned from my side: dont go overboard. I once had like five extensions all fighting for the same sidebar space and it basically broke my browser... super annoying. Just pick one solid one for prompts and one for the sidebar and you'll be golden!! tbh it makes the whole experience way more professional. gl!
If you're looking at this from a technical efficiency standpoint, the market has really shifted toward 'all-in-one' automation wrappers rather than just simple prompt libraries. Honestly, HARPA AI is the current benchmark for power users. It isn't just a sidebar; it’s an automation engine that handles web monitoring and IFTTT-style workflows directly in-browser. The way it interacts with the DOM to scrape data for your prompts is miles ahead of basic copy-paste extensions. Another one worth analyzing is Merlin AI. While many extensions lock you into one model, Merlin offers a superior multi-LLM switchboard (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5, Gemini) within the same UI. From a market research perspective, these 'meta-platforms' are winning because they minimize context-switching latency. If you care about API stability and high-end features like batch processing, it’s basically the enterprise-grade choice. Just watch your system resources—these heavy-duty tools can be absolute RAM hogs if you keep too many background processes running. Still, they are SO much more efficient for a real professional workflow.
Honestly just reading through these and I gotta say, be careful with the more is better approach. I used to be obsessed with finding every possible add-on to speed things up, but I ran into some massive compatibility issues. At one point, I had three different sidebars trying to load at the same time and it made my browser crawl. One tool would break the layout of the other, and I'd end up spending more time refreshing tabs than actually working. I eventually realized that less is more. My current setup is just one simple tool that does what I need without fighting for resources. It is not as flashy as the automation engines some people mentioned, but at least it doesnt crash my session every twenty minutes. Sometimes the simplest workflow is the one that actually sticks because you arent constantly troubleshooting why things arent loading right...
Late to the party but I gotta chime in on the safety aspect. Ive been messing with GPT since the playground days and honestly... you gotta be super careful with these wrapper extensions. A few months back, I saw a bunch of people getting their accounts flagged because some extension was making too many weird background requests. It just isnt worth the risk sometimes. If you are really desperate for organization, I would suggest checking out Superpower ChatGPT Extension for Chrome. I used it for a while when I had like 500 plus chats and needed folders. It adds a search bar and folders directly to the native UI which is nice for a cleaner workflow. But seriously, make sure to check what data they are sending home. For exporting, I eventually just started using Save ChatGPT to PDF Chrome Extension because it doesnt need all those crazy permissions that the big automation suites ask for. Just keep it simple or you will end up with a mess of broken scripts every time OpenAI updates the site layout... which happens like every week lol.
