Are there AI tutors available for middle school math homework?

My 7th grader is currently struggling with pre-algebra, especially word problems and multi-step equations. We’ve tried some YouTube tutorials, but they aren't interactive enough when he gets stuck on a specific step. I'm curious if there are any AI-powered tutors that can walk him through problems in real-time rather than just giving the final answer. It would be great to find something that follows the common core curriculum and offers step-by-step hints. Does anyone have experience with specific AI tools that are safe for middle schoolers and actually explain the 'why' behind the math? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Honestly, I've been through this with my kids for years. We tried Khan Academy Khanmigo and it's basically the gold standard for Common Core stuff. It *actually* guides them without just giving the answer, which is great. Unfortunately, I had issues with Photomath Plus being way too easy for them to just cheat with... not as good as expected for actual learning. Stick with Khanmigo, it's safer and way more interactive for 7th grade math! gl!

Curious about one thing: what's your budget looking like for this?? Honestly, the free stuff is hit or miss with logic, so I'm happy to help if I know your price range. lol

Similar situation here - I went through this last year with my daughter's math. Before jumping into tools, it's important to realize that many AI systems are basically just text predictors. If they aren't specifically built for math logic, they tend to 'hallucinate' steps or mess up simple arithmetic while sounding totally confident about it, which is super confusing for a kid already struggling. Honestly, I had issues with generic bots because they'd sometimes skip the 'why' just to get to the answer.

Anyway, I tried out Socratic by Google after seeing it mentioned elsewhere. It uses AI to scan the problem and pulls up specific explainers, but it's still a bit hit-or-miss on the real-time 'walkthrough' aspect compared to something like Khanmigo (which I know was already mentioned). We also messed around with Photomath's animated tutorials, but like the previous person said, it can be too tempting for them to just swipe for the answer. It's a tough balance to find something that actually teaches, you know?

omg i am literally in the exact same boat right now with my middle schooler. we have been trying to find something that actually teaches for like three months now and it is so frustrating because everything just seems to give the answer or mess up the logic. i even tried building my own custom prompt instructions to act as a socratic tutor but it still keeps slipping up on those tricky multi-step word problems... honestly it feels like such a struggle to find a tool that actually understands how to teach kids instead of just being a glorified calculator. totally feel your pain on this one, still searching for that perfect solution too.

honestly its ridiculous how much we have to deal with this lately! Spent months on this exact journey with my 12-year-old and it drives me crazy how these companies promise the world then just fail at basic logic. I was super excited at first thinking we finally found a way to stop the nightly math tears but man, what a letdown. Its such a scam how these platforms charge massive monthly fees when the tech still trips over a basic multi-step equation. Really wanted to love these tools, but seeing my kid get even more confused because a bot hallucinated an entire step is just the worst feeling ever! Spent so much time and money trying to make it work... feels like we are just unpaid beta testers for tech corps who dont actually care if our kids learn the 'why' or not. Its just so frustrating!
