I'm feeling a bit out of my depth here honestly. My boss at the marketing firm here in London just told us we need to start integrating AI into our daily workflows by the end of the month and I'm kind of panicking because I dont even know where to start.

I have about $50 to spend on a decent app or course but I need something that explains things like I'm five years old because I'm a total beginner. Sorry if this is a really basic thing to ask. Does anyone know a good app for a professional who knows literally nothing about tech? I just need to get the basics down before I fall behind...

To add to the point above: I completely agree that most of these trendy apps are just surface-level fluff that wont actually help you at work. If you want to get your moneys worth, you need a platform that handles the technical details in a methodical way. I have been very satisfied with how some of the structured learning sites break down complex concepts like model weights and context windows without being overwhelming. Since youre at a marketing firm, you really need to understand how the tech processes your prompts. I have found two options that work well for beginners:

  • DataCamp Introduction to ChatGPT for Non-Techies Course is excellent for learning the mechanics of prompt engineering. It covers token limits and temperature settings quite clearly, which is vital for professional outputs.
  • Brilliant.ai Introduction to Generative AI Learning Path uses interactive modules rather than just videos. It builds your technical intuition through visualization, which is helpful if you arent naturally tech-savvy. Both of these are within your $50 budget and skip the annoying jargon. My own experience with these was very positive because they focus on data and logic rather than just hype. Honestly, knowing the actual specs of how an LLM functions will give you a massive edge over colleagues who are just copy-pasting stuff randomly. No complaints here, these platforms definitely get the job done efficiently.

Adding my two cents tho. Honestly, a lot of the mainstream apps marketed to professionals lately are pretty underwhelming. I have tested a few that promise AI mastery but they usually just scratch the surface without explaining actual mechanics like tokens or temperature settings. Its frustrating because you end up paying for stuff you could find on a dev blog. Before you drop that 50, I need to ask a few things:

  • Are you looking to learn prompt engineering for copy, or do you need to understand how your firms data is processed?
  • Do you need a hands-on sandbox where you can test variables, or is video theory okay? Most marketing tools are just wrappers for existing APIs anyway... so you might not even need a course if you learn the underlying logic. Dont stress tho, the learning curve is steep but it levels off fast once you get the vocab down.
