Man I am seriously panicking about my job lately because my manager keeps talking about how AI integration is the future and I feel like I'm already ten years behind everyone else. I work in digital marketing in Chicago and honestly if I don't figure this stuff out I'm pretty sure my department is gonna get downsized or something by next year. I have about a 45 minute train ride every morning and afternoon and I really want to use that time to actually learn something useful instead of just scrolling through tiktok but I dont know where to start.
I did some digging online and everyone keeps recommending Coursera or edX but those feel so academic? Like I opened a machine learning course on my phone and it was just a guy talking for 20 minutes with a whiteboard and I couldn't even see the code on my small screen. It just didnt feel like it was made for a phone at all. Then I saw people talking about Brilliant which looks fun and interactive but then I read a thread on reddit saying it's mostly just logic puzzles and doesnt actually teach you how to build anything or use the actual tools like GPT or Midjourney in a professional way. Then there's Sololearn but I'm not sure if their AI stuff is actually updated or just basic python stuff that wont help me with the high-level concepts.
I'm looking for something that's actually a native app—not just a website shoved into a mobile browser. My budget is tight, maybe like 15 or 20 bucks a month tops if it's actually worth it. I need something that starts from the ground up because my math skills are super rusty, like I havent done calculus since high school and that was a long time ago. Is there an app that lets you actually practice the concepts or maybe even do some light coding on the go? I just feel so overwhelmed by all the options and I dont want to waste my money on a subscription that I'm gonna quit after three days because it's too boring or too hard to follow on a noisy train. Does anyone actually use a mobile app that worked for them or am I just dreaming that I can learn this stuff on my phone?
> I'm looking for something that's actually a native app Like someone mentioned, DataCamp is a solid shout, but I've been really happy using Mimo Learn AI and Python Subscription. It fits that 10 or 15 dollar budget perfectly if you catch a sale. No complaints here... its super bite-sized for my commute and doesnt force me to do crazy calculus. Definitely easier on the wallet than a full university course and feels way more mobile native than others.
> I just feel so overwhelmed by all the options and I dont want to waste my money I went through that same panic when my firm started pushing automation. Honestly, be careful with apps that feel like games. I wasted months on logic puzzles that didnt help my job... I eventually used DataCamp Learn Data Science Mobile App Subscription on the train. It actually lets you practice coding on your phone without a keyboard. Just make sure to stick with the AI tracks specifically.
Regarding what #1 said about being overwhelmed, most apps are subpar.
