What is the best mobile app for learning AI basics? I looked at Brilliant but it seems super math-heavy and Mimo is mostly just for coding python syntax which isnt what i want.

I have a 40-minute train ride into Chicago every day and a $50 budget so i need something worth it...

In my experience trying to find a balance between too academic and too basic, most apps miss the mark. You're right about Brilliant, it hits the math hard and fast. If you've got a 40-minute window, you need something that lets you dive into concepts like transformer architecture or reinforcement learning without needing a whiteboard. Ive been using DataCamp Mobile App Annual Subscription for about three years now. It has a specific AI Fundamentals track that focuses on the logic behind the tech rather than just writing a print statement in Python. Its usually around $150 a year but they constantly run $49 sales which fits your budget perfectly. The lessons are bite-sized, so you can finish two or three modules before you even hit Union Station. Another solid choice is the Coursera Mobile App for iOS and Android specifically to take the AI For Everyone course by Andrew Ng. Its purely conceptual and probably the gold standard for non-technical AI basics. I've tried many platforms over the years and Andrew Ng is basically the best at explaining high-level concepts without the fluff. The mobile interface is clean, lets you download videos for the train ride in case the signal drops out. Honestly, for $50 you could probably get the certificate for that single course and still have money left over. Just avoid the generic intro to tech apps, they're mostly garbage for actual AI depth... stick to the specialized content.

> Mimo is mostly just for coding python syntax which isnt what i want. I spent years riding that same Metra line into the city and found DataCamp Interactive Data Science and AI was decent for conceptual stuff without getting bogged down in syntax. It handles the why better than Mimo. Quick tip: download lessons before you hit the dead zones near Clybourn. Are you aiming for deep-dive theory or just high-level logic?

unfortunately i have this exact same issue and its been like four months of searching. i also have a commute and everything i try is just not as good as expected. i want to see actual tensor shapes and backpropagation logic but apps just show me basic syntax... honestly so annoying.

  • nothing fits that 50 dollar budget
  • content is mostly fluff
  • battery usage is insane still havent found the one yet ngl.
