im totally lost trying to find something for my 8-year-olds birthday next week and he really wants to learn how to make games and stuff but I dont know anything about coding or AI honestly... its all so confusing with all the new apps out there and I dont want him just staring at a screen doing nothing. I need something that uses AI to help him learn but keeps it fun and creative since he gets bored fast.

I really need:

  • something under 20 dollars
  • works on a tablet
  • doesnt need a super fast internet connection
  • very easy for a beginner parent like me to help with

Does anyone know any good ones because I feel like im drowning in options right now...

My daughter is obsessed and it is just so fun. It has these cool AI extensions where they can code stuff using camera tracking. Honestly, its the best way to keep them engaged without it being boring or too hard for us parents! Perfect for a birthday gift tbh.

Ngl most kids AI apps are super disappointing and kinda glitchy tho. Just grab Apple Swift Playgrounds Coding App for iPad... its way more creative and actually works offline once downloaded.

Coming back to this after thinking about the money I wasted last year. Trying to get my kid into this stuff was the goal, but honestly, most of the apps I tried were super disappointing. Unfortunately, one creative app I bought was basically just a broken mess that crashed if we werent right next to the router. I had issues with the AI tutor thing too because it just felt like a glorified chat window that gave him all the answers.

  • everything felt way too hand-holdy
  • the interface was way too cluttered
  • it kept trying to upsell me on premium features Giving up on the flashy AI stuff was the only choice, so I found a simple offline logic game instead. My current setup is way more low-tech now because those smart apps were not as good as expected and caused more headaches than they were worth. Its frustrating when you spend money and just get a glorified screen-time sink.
