I seriously need to know which ai image generators actually give you the best value for your money right now because i am about done with midjourney. Honestly it is just getting way too expensive for what it is and the discord interface is such a massive headache to navigate when you are in a rush. I keep burning through my fast hours on stuff that doesn't even look right and then i have to wait forever for the slow mode or pay even more money which is just not happening.
Im a freelance designer in Chicago and i use these tools for quick client mockups and concept art for a book cover project i gotta finish by next week. My budget is super tight lately and spending $30 or $60 a month just to get decent results feels like a total ripoff at this point. I tried playground ai but the free tier feels super limited lately and the quality has dipped for me.
Ive heard people talk about leonardo or maybe just trying to run stable diffusion locally but my laptop is kinda old and i dont think it can handle the processing power needed for that. Is there a middle ground? Like something with a better credit system or maybe a cheaper flat rate that doesnt nerf the quality into the ground? Im just trying to experiment with different styles without feeling like every single prompt is costing me actual lunch money...

- I had a rough time with MJ recently too. Unfortunately, the price hikes are insane. I moved over to SeaArt.ai VIP Cloud Subscription which is only like 15 bucks. It handles all the SD models in the cloud so your old hardware wont matter. It honestly saved my last freelance project when I was broke and rushing to meet a deadline.

I switched to Leonardo.ai Apprentice Plan 8500 tokens and I am super satisfied with how it handles. The web UI is such a relief after wrestling with Discord all day. Plus, those daily free credits really help when the budget is tight. It's been a total game changer for my client mockups tho.

Been thinking about your post for a few hours now. Honestly, I had issues with almost every subscription service lately; they all seem to throttle quality the second you need reliability. If you want something consistent, check out Krea AI for real-time generation. It feels way more stable for quick client mocks since you can tweak stuff live without burning tokens on random misses. It is not perfect, but at least I know what I am getting before hitting generate. Speaking of reliability, the traffic here in the city has been a total nightmare lately. I spent three hours just trying to get from the loop to my place, and the train was delayed twice. It feels like nothing works like it used to, whether it is software or public transit. Anyway, good luck with those book covers, it is a tough deadline but you will get there.

Quick question tho, are you doing illustrative covers or do you need the AI to handle the actual typography too? If its the latter, ^ This. Also, i have been super satisfied with Ideogram Basic Plan 400 Credits Monthly lately. Its about 8 bucks and works well for layouts.

- No Discord headaches
- Solid credit limit Ngl, it handles quick mockups perfectly without breaking the bank.

It is honestly so frustrating when you feel like you are just throwing money away on monthly subs that end up being way more expensive than they should be for what we actually need. I have been stressing over these exact same costs for my own projects lately too. It feels like every single time I turn around, another platform is hiking their prices! I finally decided to take the DIY route because I just couldnt handle the subscriptions anymore. If you want to stop the bleeding, just go with any of those cloud-based platforms that let you run open source stuff. It is honestly amazing how much better the control is when you arent locked into a proprietary system! You really cant go wrong moving in that direction. Hang in there, you will get those covers done soon!
