I’ve been trying to figure out how to build a basic website for my local hobby group here in Portland because we need a way to organize our weekly meetups but I have absolutely no background in computers or coding or anything like that. I keep hearing people talk about how AI is basically doing automated software development now where you just describe what you want and it builds it for you. It sounds like magic but when I go to look for the tools I just get overwhelmed by all the options. I see things like ChatGPT and then other stuff like Claude or GitHub Copilot and I even saw something called Devin that's supposed to be like an AI worker? I only have about $30 to spend on this and I’m hoping to get a prototype running by Sunday night. I’m really worried that I’m gonna sign up for something too complicated that requires me to know how to use a terminal or whatever that black screen with the text is called. Sorry if this is a really basic question but I'm just so lost with all the jargon. Which AI tools are actually the most effective for this kind of automated software development for a total beginner?

I have been experimenting with several of these platforms recently to see which ones actually work for someone with zero coding knowledge. Given your $30 budget and the Sunday deadline, there are two tools that I have found to be the most effective for getting a site up without touching a terminal.
- Replit Core Subscription with AI Agent
This is my primary recommendation because it manages the hosting and environment setup automatically. You simply describe what your hobby group needs and the agent builds it in real-time. Pros: Requires no installation, handles deployment, very simple interface.
Cons: It operates on a credit system for the AI usage, though the basic sub is well within your budget.
- Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet Pro
Claude is incredibly good at generating code and showing a live preview through a feature called Artifacts.
Pros: High-quality reasoning, explains things clearly, instant visual feedback.
Cons: Does not handle the actual hosting, so you would need another service to make the site public. I think starting with the Replit agent makes the most sense for a prototype. It really does feel like an automated worker. It sets everything up so you dont have to worry about how the code actually runs, which sounds like exactly what you are looking for. It is basically a one-stop shop for building and launching without needing to learn the jargon.

To add to the point above: Im super excited for your hobby group! Since you have $30, these options are amazing:
- Wix Studio AI Website Builder: Fantastic for beginners because you never see code.
- Hostinger AI Website Builder: Incredible for getting a site live by Sunday night. Quick question tho... does the group need a signup form or just a basic calendar for meetups?

tbh most of these auto-dev tools are pretty overhyped. I tried a few and they just kept breaking everything, total letdown. Before I point you anywhere, what exactly does this hobby site need to do? If you want something that actually stays online, just stick with any of the builders from Microsoft, you cant go wrong. Theyre usually way safer than these trendy AI startups.
