I just got this game like five days ago and im finally level 20 so i can play the competitive mode!! im so hyped to get my first rank but honestly the character list is so huge and i dont know who to pick. i usually play alone on my gaming laptop in my dorm and i really want to get to silver before my brother comes home for the summer so i can brag to him.
sorry if this is a super basic thing but i have no idea where to start with the abilities. like should i pick someone who can heal themselves or maybe someone who has those smoke balls to hide in? what are the best agent skills for just winning games by myself when my teammates dont talk much...
Hey, welcome to the madness. Late to the thread but honestly, solo queueing to Silver is mostly about staying alive long enough to make a play. In my experience, you really want agents that have selfish utility because relying on random teammates to use their utility for you just wont happen half the time. I've tried many agents over the years and for a beginner, I'd say stick to Phoenix or Reyna. Phoenix is probably the safest bet because he can heal himself with his own fire wall and molly. It's super reliable. If you get dinked, you just hide in a corner, drop your fire, and you're back in the fight. That self-sufficiency is massive when your team is silent and nobody is playing a healer. Also, his flash is pretty easy to use once you get the curve down. Since you're playing on a laptop in a dorm, make sure your hardware isn't holding you back tho. I used to play on a tiny desk with no space, it was brutal. If you haven't yet, grab a solid mouse like the Logitech G502 HERO High Performance Wired Gaming Mouse and a decent pad. Precision is key in those low-rank aim duels. Just focus on one agent, learn their heal timings, and you'll hit silver way before summer. Don't overthink the big roster yet... just master one and play it safe.
Building on the earlier suggestion, Omen is easily the king of solo queue imo. Over the years I've tried every agent, and his kit is just too good for carrying quiet teams. You get smokes that recharge for free, a teleport for bad spots, and a blind that hits through walls. It basically lets you control the map even if your teammates arent talking much... Since you're in a dorm, space and noise are huge issues. Dont stick with laptop speakers tho. I grabbed the Razer BlackShark V2 X Wired Gaming Headset because it’s budget friendly and the positional audio is actually solid for hearing footsteps. Also, grab a SteelSeries QcK Medium Gaming Mouse Pad. It’s like ten bucks and makes your aim way more consistent on those cheap dorm desks. It’s a small investment that really pays off when you’re grinding for Silver.
