Ive been running local Llama 3 instances on my own rig for a while now but my power bill is getting totally out of hand and my apartment basically turns into a sauna when I train anything. Thinking about moving to the cloud for a bit to save my sanity and my electric bill.
Looking for something that isnt gonna break the bank, maybe under 150 a month.
Anyone have solid recs? Im currently based in the EU so regional availability matters. Kinda just want something that works without me having to fiddle with docker configs all night...
> my apartment basically turns into a sauna when I train anything. Oh man, I totally feel your pain! Running NVIDIA A100 80GB PCIe locally is basically like having a space heater on blast. For your budget, check out RunPod or Lambda Labs. Lambda is amazing for raw NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB power with zero config. RunPod is fantastic for spiky usage since you only pay by the second. Both have solid EU nodes!
Re: > my apartment basically turns into a sauna... honestly, you should look into Vast.ai GPU Rental for those spikes. It is basically an auction house for compute. It is cheap but be careful, uptime varies wildly. If you need stability for an app, maybe stick with DigitalOcean Droplets or look at Paperspace Core GPU instances. Just make sure to monitor your snapshots, dont leave them running or youll burn that budget in a week.
Honestly, have you checked out any serverless providers yet? They handle the scaling for you! Are you mostly training or just doing inference, because that really changes the hardware strategy?
