Are there any AI tutors recommended for primary school students?

My 7-year-old is starting to find math a bit tricky lately, and I am looking for something more interactive than just standard worksheets to help him out at home. I have heard about AI tutors becoming quite popular, but I am specifically looking for tools designed for younger primary school kids.

It would be great to find something that is safe to use and keeps them engaged with gamification or rewards, rather than just simple drills. I am particularly interested in platforms that cover core subjects like English or basic arithmetic. Does anyone have experience with specific AI tutors that are actually effective for this age group? I would love to hear your recommendations or if there are any particular ones we should definitely avoid!

Late to the party but I gotta chime in cuz I've been there! Last year my 7yo literally cried over basic subtractions... honestly it was heartbreaking lol. I've tried many apps over the years to find what actually works, so here's what I recommend for your situation:

  • Khan Academy Kids: This is basically the gold standard for free stuff and covers both English and Math. Pros: Zero cost, super safe, and very cute characters. Cons: The AI is kinda basic... it doesnt adapt quite as fast as the heavy hitters iirc.
  • DreamBox Math: This is a much more technical option. It uses intelligent adaptive learning to analyze how a kid solves a problem, not just the final answer. Pros: Serious technical insights for parents, high-level gamification. Cons: Monthly subscription fee can add up over time. In my experience, starting with the free stuff saved us a ton of money before we realized we needed the deeper AI analysis of DreamBox Math. Hope that helps!! gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! Prodigy Math is a decent option because it turns arithmetic into a fantasy RPG battle, which is SO good for engagement. The base free version is actually plenty for most kids, so it is a solid alternative to Khan Academy Kids if you are looking for zero-cost engagement without needing the paid subscription.
